• Oh no, I have an E&L policy and have been advised that they are slow payers and have a habbit of 'loosing claims'. eeek!
The Vets are going to post and fax claim forms today - hope they pay out soon...but won't be holding my breath or re-insuring with them now.

remember, anything you have claimed for, or seen a vet about with your pet, won;t be covered by any new policy you take out with a new insurer.

My 12 year old German shepherd has sadly passed over to the rainbow bridge.

She collapsed, couldn't get up on her back legs. I rang the emergency vet she was hospitalised for 2 days they tried there best. Apart from putting her through scans and xrays i took the decision to say goodbye her prognosis was she wouldn't recover.

I gave all the forms to the vet they filled their part out attached a report
i had an email from eandl which said without a cause of death and death certificate they could not process my claim. I rang the vet they said they have given all the information needed to process my claim and they just needed to pay out.

I have emailed eandl back and expressed how distressing this has all been.

I am not asking for them to pay for her to be euthanized just for the care and treatment she received. Is it me, do you think this is a clear claim??? Please help I am talking about £1100 not a couple of quid.

It was four week to the day and i could hardly speak to the vet without crying.

Why do they make it so hard?????

So very sorry to hear about your dog - it will get better with time although it wont seem it now. xxx

BUT E and L are well known for delaying payments - contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau and ask them to call on your behalf or indeed, Trading Standards.

This is why people on here say dont touch E and L policies (or those subtley underwritten by then - always check the small print on websites). A friend of ours waited a year after his Bull Mastiff died to get payment. They are awful at customer service.

I'm so very sorry for your loss.

They really asked for a death certificate, have I missed out on something I've never heard that one before, I think they are having you on. I've never used them but I have heard some awful things about them.

I have emailed eandl back and expressed how distressing this has all been. I emailed them again last night and mentioned if i didn't hear by Friday i would be contacting the ombudsman. Today i rang them they said they had received my email and someone would be dealing with it soon. Funny how they are dealing with the one that mentions the ombudsman and not my complaint that they just wrote off my claim.

I'll jeep you all posted on the next hurdle.

I have had my insurance with them since she was 4 weeks old, never missed a payment and only had 1 claim in the 12 years

In the past they have been known to read this board too :) So lets hope they pull their fingers out for your very distressing case.
• So sorry for you loss.
We had to claim with E & L a couple of years ago and they were dreadful. I had to chase every day and whilst i did get the money in the end they then altered his policy so that if he got "gardia" again they wouldn't cover it. I then swapped to Tesco's and they were ok but then wanted to increase premiums 60% on renewal so now we are with animal friendly. Haven't had to claim yet but they do donate a lot of money to charity.

Well here we go battle of the insurance policy wording.

Why would you need this clause if you made the decision to euthanize your pet because shw would not recover from her injury.???????????

Why would an exclusion like this occur when yes she had been wobbly as in stillness when getting up but NEVER had any sort of treament for it........................

“Cher was presented OOH with acute onset of weakness on hind limbs. Has been an ongoing problem for years being wobbily on hind limbs.”

Can anyone help!

CONDITIONS WHICH APPLY TO SECTIONS 1 AND 2.
2. If Your Pet dies, You must arrange and pay for a qualified vet to certify the cause of death. The vet must make a post-mortem examination at Your expense if the cause of death is not known.

AM I GETTING THIS WRONG???????

On the other hand - I have had my three horses insured with E&L for over ten years. Had to have a major claim three years ago when my horse had a suspected broken neck - I rang and emailed them as soon as I found tha there was a problem an kept them fully informed - emailed every day with latest updates - horse was hospitalised for a week and had three scans - bone scan, CNS and muscle plus sedation, treatments etc.

I scanned and emailed all quotes and vet bills etc and sent my claim in on 'signed for' delivery

I had to pay (as per my policy) the excess and the cost of transport / livery wasn't included but E&L paid the full amount that I was entitled to claim and quickly.

Two of my horses have pre-exsisting conditions that aren't covered by E&L but TBH no other insurance company would either.
