BT charging fee for cancelling broadband once out of initial contract period

The existing terms and conditions which aren't now available on BT's site have the cancellation fee as £6.
Think this came in sometime late 2007.“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0 -
I wonder if the existing £6 cancellation fee will be charged if you choose to exit early without a MAC because of a change in the cancellation fee?
If they did (and they certainly could if their previous ts + cs mentioned it), it would be a small price to end up paying for anyone wanting to leave them straightaway, but prior to this development facing a large early termination fee.0 -
BT retail has charged £6.00 to cancel for quite a while now. The new charge is due to an increase at wholesale level for adsl cease with no mac and is been passed on to customers.0

Well if you had no idea what BT's existing cease charge was how could you confidently declare that this new charge "is to the "material disadvantage" of their customers"?
For all you know they might be charging £30 at the moment and this amendment could be a bonus. As it turns out you are correct but by luck rather than judgement.“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0 -
What is your point?
It was you told us that previous to this announcement the charge was £6, so what are you on about it maybe being £30?
You posted asking a question, and I answered you. Why this aggression:As it turns out you are correct but by luck rather than judgement.0 -
I too received one of these e-mails - I contacted Ofcom about it and they indicated that they were investigating!

BT (or 'Bloomin Terrible' as I like to refer to them) are trying to rip me off to the tune of £92 for cancelling my broadband because I'm moving house! They tell me that because I changed from Option 1 to Option 2 (or vice versa!) in June this year, my contract was renewed and runs until 2011! When I made the phone call to BT to change the package, I actually asked whether changing Options would tie me into a new contract and was told 'no, it would not'. Why on earth would I have changed Options for the sake of a few months if I had been told I'd be signing up to another contract. This is appalling behaviour. I am very tempted to cancel the account (and my direct debit) and take the whole thing to the Telecoms Ombudsmen/Ofcom etc... Any advice/feedback gratefully received.:mad::mad:0
