Won Item On Ebay But Seller Wont Sell It To Me

I placed a bid on an item of furniture on Ebay.
I won the item for a very resonable price.
I emailed the seller to arrange collection and payment.
They have just replied to my email, to say that they forgot to put a reserve price on the item before they listed it on Ebay, and because the price that I won it for is lower than the reserve price that they wanted, they aren't going to let me have it.
I'm quite new to Ebay and just wondered if this was fair?

No it's not fair, but neither can you force the seller to part with the item. There are a few options though depending on your outlook.
If you have accepted that you did win a bargain, you could try to negotiate a price with the seller, maybe meet half way between their proposed reserve, and your winning bid. It may still work out as a good deal for you, but also gives the seller a more acceptable price.
Failing this, put it down to experience, but make a "Seller Non Performance" report. One is unlikely to cause long term damage to the seller, but will make them more wary of how they act in the future.
Link is here to report Seller Non Performance<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
Open a Non-performing seller dispute and give them a NPS mark. Leave them negative feedback stating what they've done. Other than that, not much else you can do.In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
It's time to make that change.

Personally i would never negotiate a price with the (non) seller. They sell on Ebay & should know the rules that they have entered into an agreement...
Just open a non-performing seller dispute.........What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!0 -
Bids are binding on buyers - surely selling prices are binding on sellers unless the auction is closed early ?
Deffo raise a dispute and once resolved leave negative feedback before they do the same to someone else. As a buyer, they can not leave you neg.0 -
the sad fact is that these sellers do indeed get away with it. Its unfortunate but there really isn't much you can do. Sorry you missed out.0

Report the seller to Ebay, yourself and the seller have entered an agreement once you purchased the item.....0

Couldnt they of edited their listing to add a reserve price?0

legally binding but who is going to pay to make it legally binding?
that means court costs.
there was a case recently where a yacht went cheap and a judge forced the seller to go through with the sale
however it was obviously worth the costs to the buyer0
