Unlocking a Sharp camera phone

I have a Sharp phone on contract with Vodaphone which has recently come to the end of the tie in so I - stupidly - signed up on a new contract on 3 with a free Nokia 6630 which as it turns out isn't as "smart" a phone as I originally thought it was and is bulkier than my existing phone.

However, I've not cancel the contract with 3 as the line rental is cheaper than before, but really want to unlock the Sharp phone from vodaphone to use it with the 3 SIM, and sell the Nokia unused.

I thought this would be easy but finding unlock codes for Sharp seems difficult, and I've now run out of the 14 days time to cancel the 3 contract so am currently paying both contracts!

It doesn't help that I can't find the sharp model number - I'll have to try and find the box unless anyone knows where on the phone it would tell me that - but does anyone have any suggestions as to how to go about unlocking a Sharp phone?

Many thanks for all suggestions!

Laura

  • What Sharp phone is it?

3 sim cards only work in 3g phones.

Unlocking the sharp phone shouldn't be a problem, but compatability between the handset and sim maybe an issue.

    Jimmyjim,

    Thanks for the advice.

I can't find a model number on the phone itself and have tried going through the various on screen options but can't find anything about the phone itself under things like 'my phone', 'profiles' etc.

It's a camera phone and can access Vodaphone live which I think is internet (i've never used it because of the cost!) but that doesn't necessarily make it 3g, does it?

Looks like I'm tied into a contract I don't want!

  • If you remove the battery it should tell you behind there on the back of the phone.

Only the Sharp 902 and 903 phones are 3g at the mo, to my knowledge.

You are right just because you can access vodaphone live doesn't mean you are 3g

Thanks jimmyjim, I didn't know to look there! It's a sharp GX10i apparently (I'm sure I knew that once...). So does that mean I'm stuck with 3 on the Nokia and there's no hope of keeping my nice (older!) phone or can anyone suggest anything else?

    Thanks!

  • Yep, unfortunately you are stuck with the nokia. The GX10i is a 2g phone and will not accept your 3 sim card.
