Royal mail dont class anything as missing until its AT LEAST 10 days late depending on how you sent it.
Royal Mail will not accept a claim for loss on a UK internal item until 15 working days have elapsed, it can then take a further 3 weeks to receive compensation.
The only concern I have is whether the Royal Mail consider uncrossed postal orders to be 'money' as then they would not be covered by recorded delivery or a COP. 'Money', however Royal mail define that, is only covered for loss if special delivery is used.
Recorded Signed for is not suitable for valuable items including jewellery and money or for very urgent mail. For these, use our Special Delivery 9.00am or Special Delivery Next Day services. Next day delivery is guaranteed, and you can arrange compensation for up to £2,500.

AFAIK Postal Orders are classed as cash therefore won't be covered if sent recorded, the only way they will be covered is if PO can proof they have not been cashed. My hubby gets PO's sent regularly in his name which I cash as he's at work & I have NEVER been asked for proof of identity, even though some of them clearly state MR!2023 wins - Rice Krispies, Avene Micellar Gel, Barbie Toy, £20 Apple Gift Card, KFC 6 piece bargain bucket, Chloe Nomade perfume, Barbie Toy (second one), Sanctuary Spa Sleep Balm, E45 Moisturising Lotion, Trolls Hamper, 12 Tonie Characters, Sure deodorant, Good Home Utensil holder, £5 Costa Gift Card, Neutrogena Micellar Jelly, Soap & Glory Mascara, Persil capsules,0
