at the end of the day the problem gets solved, if it doesnt work they will get back as you have seen many times,, so it doesnt really matter if they tell you whether they did it or not cause you can more or less guess whether they have.

Yeah, but if they can explain what it was that fixed the problem, it might stop someone else having to ask the same question and save time and trouble.

As a 'technophobe' I have used this forum to ask questions and hope that I have always thanked the 'responders' who have been kind enough to help me.

Sometimes the problem may be ongoing or other things in my life might prevent me dealing with it straightaway (an example is I asked for advice on storing photo's and am still working on this project as I have loads to scan).
I would try to 'update' when a conclusion is reached but am wary of turning the thread into chat and posting when there is nothing new to report.

I agree that it is nice to see the progress of problems though as it helps people in the future with similar ones.

I am sure that there are many people who have benefited from advice given, not just the original OP and equally some of them will have left an anonymous 'thanks' for this support - I do this myself in various forums.

I might not be able to input much on this particular forum but I do try and 'repay' the kindness by giving help/advice to others.

I don't do it for thanks (though they are appreciated) but because I am in a position to help in some small way - and that makes me feel good!

People are people, the same way that some acknowledge courtesy, some people take things for granted and some just don't care.

Thank you to the good guys out there!

why when people ask for help on here do they not finish the thread off by posting the conclusions to the problem. we take the time to answers questions and hopefully help people out. if they said yes the problem was fixed by doing x or y then we would know we are handing out good advice and not wasting peoples time.

Maybe, after following the advice, they can't get the pc to work at all? :D

Its a shame some people dont even thank you either it goes in all forums. If popel take time to help maybe it doesn't a thank you should be given only time is when the poster is deliberately trying to flame or cause trouble
