Heatstore Night storage heater -faulty?

I have owned a Heatstore (HSX18N) night storage heater since January this year. It is a 2.57kw heater in the very small lounge but had previously heated the whole house extremely well. I have (since last week) turned it back on for the winter and have had to turn it onto maximum (6), but it still does not appear to heat the house as well as it previously did. The front of the heater is touch hot at the very top (4") but goes luke warm from just above halfway down. Can anyone confirm whether this is normal. I have a two year guarantee but do not want to call anyone out until I am sure there is a problem. Could there be a thermostat issue. Any assistance in this would be much appreciated.
