I have ordered one too. wanted one of these last year, but it was too expensive, so bought the Tasimio, which was guff!
This is a good price though as others at similar price are just 14 bar.
    Thanks x:beer:
    GUFF what a great word!
    Smart price rocks!
  • marshall ward are selling the older 14bar version for £69.99 and there is a £30 off 1st order code - just ordered mine, £41.xx delivered plus 6% quidco (approx £4.20). If then you send off the voucher for £10 back you get it for just under £30, you then also get a pack of pods and a voucher from the dolce-gusto site.

Loads of vouchers for free packs from asda on ebay aswell, these are working out about £2 a box so still cheaper than the store. Long expiry dates.

My machine due to arrive today, ordred some vouchers from ebay and joined the dolce-gusto club - cant wait :) coffee here i come
  • ive just looked at the one i bought in sainsburys a week ago (14 bar one) and it doesnt have a welcome pack either. never mind!
also the asda mags were a joint issue for October/November, have the new December christmas ones out now :-(

whats the quality of espresso like with this machine? Is it gaggia comparable or just a glorified instant coffee quality machine?
It's a good deal BUT not comparable to proper espresso. These machines seem to pump through at a high pressure - it shouldn't be more than about 9. I found that out whilst researching a Nespresso machine.

I think you get what you pay for with these things and the quality of coffee depends on how much trouble you're prepared to go to to make a cuppa!

I buy coffee from a lot of places - I have yet to go somewhere that has an 'automated' machine that makes coffee that rivals a gaggia, though I noticed that gaggia and lavazza are making smaller compact machines - will look to research those after the credit crunch :)
The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster! :)

currys and comet have them for £58 ish, I got one yesterday from currys, think it may be the 14 bar one though, had the starter kit as a seperate box but attatched to top of main box? really pleased anyway :)
  • I got one for £35 from my local Sainsburys on Wednesday. There were 2 prices on the shelf, one which was an old offer price of £35 and the other £79.99. (Somebody forgot to take the old price off the shelf) So after about 20 minutes of faffing about they honoured the £35 price for me. ;-)

We've had two expensive bean to cup machines from Gaggia - they made excellent coffee but the build quality was poor and both needed major repairs after a couple of years. This time we've gone for a machine made by Jura - it doesn't have the fancy displays of the Gaggia but seems much more solidly built. Only time will tell how well it will last but I would definitely add Jura to your list for researching.

These machines are much more expensive than the pod machines, however having seen the price per cup on the machines mentioned in this thread I wonder how the cost of ownership would pan out over a few years. I need to work out how many coffees I get out of a bag of beans then do the maths ....
