Seller issued refund after I said item was dissapointing- should i feel guilty

The story is following: the jumper(bought from US) was advertised as new without tags, it arrived and was clearly used(no doubt about it, with some things you just can see they been used if only for couple of times). Emailed the seller saying that I'm sort of dissapointed as description was misleading, but still like the jumper blah blah. I did NOT ask for refund or to return it etc. Next thing I see(literally after 5 min) is paypal refund for purchase amount(minus postage) and seller saying she's sorry I'm not happy, although she's certain the item is new. Now while I'm certain the jumper is used I still like it and want to keep it, but feel really guilty now with this refund thing.. Do I refund him back..? Or should I keep it?

Send part of the refund back if you feel that is appropriate.

Many sellers now are very wary of their stars and reputations and will take a short term financial loss rather than risk getting a poor reputation that will impact of future sales.

Maybe it was a genuine mistake and she realises that it was not quite as pristine as she thought, maybe she sensibly realised that having the item returned would suit no purpose. I have refunded before now on small items (I usually block the buyer at the same time though), sometimes time wise it is easier to send a few pounds back rather than spend hours in emails and with paypal trying to sort it all out.

In my experience, the vast majority of sellers are genuine people who want their buyers to be happy.

I've had a couple of similar cases where things were not as described - not so bad as to want to return, but I wanted to make the point, and the sellers have refunded all or part of the sale fee.

If you feel guilty, return some of the refund, keeping what you think the item was worth in its true condition.
  • wish my recent seller would do that instead of being a complete pain and pretty much accusing me of damaging the item myself.
I'd send back whatever proportion of the refund you feel is appropriate

I would just stick a couple of quid in the next big issues sellers hand instead of giving it back to the seller. Makes you feel good and the seller was obviously happy to give you a refund :)

This isn't the way. Big Issue sellers are doing a job, not begging for Charity. Would you go into your supermarket or local shop and just hand over a couple of quid in the till operator's hand? No, of course you wouldn't, so why even suggest doing it to someone selling a magazine. This is derogatory to the seller who is not only doing a job, but trying to build their self-esteem.
  • Keep the jumper and leave them good feedback.

A buyer e-mailed me after buying 2 suits from me. She said she loved one but wasnt happy wiith the other. I just refunded her for the one she wasnt happy with and told her to keep it. I didnt want it anyway and i'd sold loads of items that day so it wasnt the end of the world for the sake of a few pounds. I just hope that one day if the shoes on the other foot someone would do the same for me.
