Accidentally Booked Holiday Twice!

Booked a holiday to Tenerife tonight via the internet. I completed all my details and then clicked 'Book'. Came up with 'There has been an error'.

Went through the whole process again and this time I got a confirmation booking number. Holiday was paid by Credit Card (£800+ £18 Booking Fee).

To my horror, about 5 minutes later I got TWO e-mailed Booking Confirmations! Tried to phone Thomas Cook Customer Services to sort it out but they were closed.

I've checked with my Credit Card Company and they confirmed that payment has been made twice. I will have to phone Thomas Cook tomorrow to try and sort this mess out. However, I will have a sleepless night worrying whether I will get back one of the payments. And will I get back the Booking Fee as well?

Anyone any experience of this?

I haven't experienced it myself, but I am sure when you call them tomorrow they will refund the other one as it is an obvious mistake :)

A few months ago i booked a room at a hotel the cost was a few hundred. There was some kind of fault so i phoned Expedia and they had taken the money something like 6 times, the money was secured against my credit card but released within a few days. I doubt you have much to worry about.
  • Thanks for supportive comments.

I phoned first thing this morning and after 45 minutes in a queue I was eventually told by Thomas Cook that it would need to be passed to their administrative department to deal with.

Spent a worriesome day and then phoned again when I got home from work at 6pm. They said it should be okay and they would resolve the problem. May take a few days to put back on my credit card but they accept it was a mistake.

I'll keep an eye on my credit card for next few days. Will breathe a sigh of relief when money does go back onto my card.
  • If you've any problems getting your money back you should raise it with your CC company and let them chase it.
