    Heh-heh....and here we go......

OK, you're going to need to connect to the router with a cable at the moment. It's obviously not recognised the wifi adapter or it hasn't the firmware for it.

Once it's all loaded, you need to go to System, Administration, Hardware Drivers. You need to pray that it shows up in here as it makes life a whole load easier. If it does, you need to select it and click "Activate". It'll go off and download the firmware and then eventually install it. You'll probably get a warning about using restricted drivers. Close that and it'll stop eventually.
When you've done that and restarted to make sure, you should be able to click on the network icon and it'll list all the SSIDs it detects. Click on one of those and it'll bring up a dialog box for the WEP/WPA key.

What wifi card or chipset is it?

If the last post doesn't work and you're using 32-bit, try the following Howto:

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=792158

There's a similar one for 64-bit if you need it.

At least being an Atheros, it's well supported. :)

It's certainly an improvement over 8.04 but sadly although the wifi is a vast improvement over 7.10, pretty much everything else isn't substantially enough to upgrade and some important things have actually been broken.
  • hi all, tried it and its not bad at all:j ..any tips on running it on a USB , will it be faster than off the CD?

Yes, as long as you have USB2 it should be faster than the LiveCD. Just start it as a LiveCD, go to System, Admin, Make USB Startup Disk and it will prompt you through the process.

I wouldn't bother if you are using an old PC without USB 2.0 support - it works, but takes ages to load up...
