littlewoods direct faulty sofa

Hi Everyone, Thanks for taking time to read the thread!

in january me and my gf ordered a 3 seater and 2 seater leather sofa from littlewoods direct.

we moved into our flat in march. so it was in my nan and grandads spare bedroom for weeks.

my nan passed away on march 27th so since then i took over her littlewoods account to pay the remainder of the balance for the sofa cause she was payin for it

so by september both the sofas seemed to of sagged and the arms were loose as well the leather seemed to be very thin in places.

They sent out homeserve to repair both sofas and when they came they just stuck in a few extra screws.

so now today homeserve have been back out cause of the same problem, who again have tightened the screws up, but now itsa been stapled back down and you can see the staples

where do i stand with getting them to collect it and have a refund. i have let them repair it twice and now it looks terrible with the odd staple you can see.
im waiting for a phonecall tomorrow off the upholstery team at littlewoods. i have told them il go and see trading standards if nothing is done

i paid them thinking it would last more than it has.

thanks for reading.

  • On the parts of the sofa where you can now see staples, how was it originally upholstered ? Was it stapled in the first place ?

They dont sound like theyve done a very good job anyway.

As for where you stand with trading standards, you have to have received 3 or more repairs before you have any real grounds to request a collection.

Have they fixed the arms sagging etc ?

  • Hi All,

If the upholsterer still makes a mess of your sofa then I would take a photo and send it with a letter showing how badly it's been repaired. Unfortunatly as they can't see the repair they will just go along with the upholsterer's report. I would also send it recorded deilvery so that you know they have recived the letter, they should then accept that the sofa looks worse and if you ask to be reinburshed for the postage they will also do this for you.. However if it is really badly repaired then I would ring the enquiry line and asked to be put through to the directors office and they will take over your case.

    Hope this helps.

You have to be aware that Littlewoods contract was with the person who originally bought the Sofa's.

I.e Your now deceased gran thus at best the contract with is now with her executors.

You also say you took over her account, were littlewoods advised of this and agreed to it or did you simply to decline to tell them she had passed on?

All of the above is relevant to your legal rights and I would clarify this before asking for your refund.

I also dont think your entitled to a fall refund, partial or replacement at best and I think the amount for wear and tear will likely be higher than 10%
  • hi there. yes it was swapped over to me to collect and sort out who owed littlewoods money cause she had customers aswell, so it was a difficult thing to do.

the account has now been settled in full.

That isnt what was asked though

Did you tell Littlewoods to transfer the account into your name, did they agree and do they see you as their original customer or your deceased gran.

the account being settled in full is irrelevant to your statutory rights, the SOGA only protects the original consumer and not subsequent owners.
  • yes they did agree, until the account was settled.
and they know it was for a customer because my nan gave them my name when it was ordered.

  • Have they rectified the staples issue yet ?

They will more than likely dig there heels in with regards to a refund / collection if there upholsterers have advised its now been fixed.

Let us know how you get on
