Need help with "blue screen of death" ! Please

Please can someone help?
Our Dell Dimension 2400 did not start up. It showed the Blue screen and said BAD_POOL_CALLER and that we should disable BIOS memory caching and shadowing. We did not now how to do this. We started the computer in safe mode and downloaded Regcure but could not run it as the page was too big in safe mode for us to click on the start. We ran a virus scan (AVG) and it found a few virus's which we deleted.
Now the blue screen is still coming up and shows 0x000000C4, 0x00000000, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x00000000 and says there is a faulty device driver on the Kernal stack!!
We are not techie at all but are willing to try and attempt some stuff, I tried to reinstall windows but its an earlier version so it wouldnt do it.
Any ideas??
Or is it destined for the scrapheap?

Try doing what was suggested first.

I tried to do that and guess what our 16 yr old son had turned it off grrrr.
He had a problem a couple of days before and used it and turned it off, I am mad with him, but he has a few learning difficulties so trying to be patient.

try removing all external devices , usb keyboards , printers etc and use a standard keyboard

boot into safe mode and see if AVG quarantined any .sys or .dll files

I'd just call Dell Tech Support. It can be a frustrating process, but they'll talk you through it.

They won't help, thanks for the suggestion, its way out of guarantee, the only place they will direct me to is Presto who handle their stuff after that. I will have to pay about £99, which is half the cost of a new one, saw a dell for £200 so maybe not worth it as the machine is about 4-5 yrs old.

no we havent installed any new hardware , also tried to run without keyboard and mouse as suggested but no luck. Have had the printer disconnected from it to use with laptop but its usually connected via USB.

Will have a look at Event Viewer and see what's on there thanks.
Tried to reinstall Windows but it said its an earlier version, so a bit stumped there.

Just thinking if I got a new anti virus disk like Kapersky would it clean it up any virus already on there? I am getting in anyway cause I think AVG is not thorough enough and this has been recommended..

I as it goes i was given 1 of theses , it was blue screening for a pass time i think i cureed by downloading a new graphics driver from windows update , you havr to click custom updates then it shows under hardware . Touch wood its been fine since

I can't get onto the net now in Safe mode so can't download the drivers
its a tough one for me as never had this before.
