Have a look in event manager. To do this right click on My Computer then click manage. Click the plus symbol next to Event Viewer now click on system. In here is a log of all events that have happend to your PC. Errors will have a red cross next to them, double click on one an it will give you the reason for the error. Post back results when you have done this.

They won't help, thanks for the suggestion, its way out of guarantee, the only place they will direct me to is Presto who handle their stuff after that.

Are you sure? I'm still getting telephone and online support for my 10 year old desk top and 5 year old laptop. I have to admit, I thought support was "free for life" with a Dell PC

Hiya, thanks for posting the log. It looks to me as though AVG has become corrupt. You also seem to have Mcafee firewall installed, and this too is corrupt. Disconnect everything from your PC bar mouse, keyboard and , monitor. Start in safe mode and un-install AVG and Mcafee, you may need to restart between each one, if so always restart in safe mode until they have both been removed. Once complete try a normal start up, this *should* clear the problem.

Just wanted to say thanks for that Simon, its still ongoing!
Did as you said, enabled me to get up and running in normal mode, albeit VERY slowly but then crashed again into blue screen. Have been trying to install another anti virus but can't, grrrr......
My nephew works with computers so he's popping down at the end of the week so fingers crossed he can sort it, otherwise its a case of the PC going into the garden via the patio window LOL
    thanks again!:T
