Dear All,
I have a quick question and I would apprecite your replies.
I am an Ex-icer. Now I am looking to put my £10,000 once I recieve that into NATWEST and Birmingham Midshires.
However they ask for a CHEQUE for an opening balance. I dont have any current accound that gives me a CHEQUE BOOK.
What shud I do????

Ask your current account provider to issue you a corporate cheque for the opening amount(s)?0

Most banks can issue a bankers' draft or a building society can issue a building society cheque.
Some may charge around £12 for the service - many waive the fee if the cheque is payable to you personally.0 -
Corporate cheque='building society cheque', e.g. Nationwide:coporate cheque... hmmm never heard of this terminology. For Nationwide Branch Corporate cheque withdrawals over £10,000 To request a Corporate cheque you'll need to visit your local branch with one piece of ID, e.g. your passport or driving licence (with paper counterpart). Subject to the Terms and Conditions of your account you can withdraw up to £500,000 per day with a corporate cheque.0 -

Just Googled CC cheques - sounds like a horrendous idea to me, e.g. http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2006/sep/01/creditcards.debt

May be they would accept your debit card number instead of a cheque? Lots of accounts come with a 'no chequebook' option these days, even the last bank in the world should know by now.0

Don't they specify the cheque has to be a personal cheque? As it forms part of their ID checks. In fact several go as far as declining a cheque from a joint account and insist the cheque account precisely matches the way the term deposit is being set up.
Bit dubious that a CC cheque meets the normal criteria ...... even more dubious that a counter cheque meets it as the account holder is the Bank. But they may agree a counter cheque made out to you ... if you provide additional ID to verify who you are (which the normal cheque does) as opposed to your address.
I would ring themIf you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
