Help! Lloyds TSB Account Blocked (Fraud Related)

Options
Hi Guys.

Wondering if you could help/guide me on my situation.

I tried using my card in city centre atm yesterday night and the atm swallowed it and said please contact the branch. I was like 'oh no'. I straight anyway rang lloyds line on 08453000000 and told them about my issue, after some verification checks they said my account had been blocked by a branch in 'Glasgow'. Im like 'Whaaat!' Ive never even been glasgow in my life. this is where i knew something wasnt right.

Next day, I went into my branch where I opened the account and told about my account being blocked, after some more verification checks and phone call to fraud department, they said ''a transaction for the ammount of £550 was unauthorised by the owner'' - this was paid into my account.

This when i realised what she was saying, a glasgow customers online bank account accessed (hacked) and was used to send me money (which was unauthorisaed)and they sent me money! fraud basically. A week before I sold my laptop on a forum where a buyer messaged and wanted to buy it, he suggested bank transfer so i allowed, and sent me the money instantly. He came to my address and collected it. I thought what a quick deal.

Ive told the woman at the branch about my story, she told me however, your account will remained blocked for 3 weeks till the investigation is over. This is SILLY. I havent done anything wrong. I want this sorting out, What shall I do!!

Thanks

  • You are in receipt of stolen money - what does that make you in the eyes of the bank? - An accessory that's what.
Let them do their job in investigating this or open an account elsewhere.

You can do nothing, you need to sit this one.

Think of it from a legal point of view: it's essentially the same thing as being in receipt of stolen goods.

Honestly, consider yourself lucky they didn't just take that money back and immediately close your account.

More than likely - don't suppose you got any proof of identity from the person picking up the laptop? Do you have the serial number etc?
If you're really lucky it might be covered by your contents insurance, but don't hold up any hope... This is why if you sell anything on Ebay and they collect you get payment cash only. Same principle everywhere else too. At least if you'd posted it you could have directed the police to the postal address...

As for how long till they "unlock" your account? When they have finished investigating that YOU are not part of the fraud but infact a victim.
