Hot Food is always a good idea - But Alcohol is not - That drops the body temperature (Esp. Whisky)0

I have just put a thread on another board letting people know that Focus are selling halogen heaters for just £7.49 (plus 10% discount if you are a senior citizen with their club card). Mum has bought one today so if it is any good, hopefully there will be some left for me to buy one too.
this is the focus link if anyone is interested: http://www.focusdiy.co.uk/Heating+Cooling/Halogen-Heater-400800W/invt/194975
I sometimes cannot move, and as we all know, moving around can help keep you warm. So I have lots of layers on including two pairs of socks, and plenty of blankets. A woolly hat also makes a big difference for me.0 -
Something I've found, if I make a soya "Shepherd Spy" (as we call it:D ) it's more warming than ever if I put a few drops of Tabasco sauce in it.
Also the sweet'n'sour sauce recipe I use contains ginger, so that's also very warming.
Sort of personal central heating.:DIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

I suppose it would be perfect for sitting on, but that is about it0

I notice that Lidl will be selling some boot-like ladies slippers with warm fleecy linings - these will be in store on 20 November and will cost £3.99 a pair - I hate having cold feet so I shall go and buy some.0

I wish some provision was made for the disabled regarding fuel bills like it is the elderly. Does anyone know if there's an online petition or something to sign?
I've just written a letter to my MP about it..a first..but I'm upto 20% of my income and it isn't even really cold yet
but would be very happy to sign a petition or just click on a thread here and add my twoppenneth..
an MP brought it up in PM's questions yesterday about increase for the elderly..and PM seemed to intimate they would get an increase..so now would be time to do something?
My HA has just put the dreaded storage heaters in 'new' this April..the little one in hall has no controls at all and seems to make my asthma worse..well it has got better agin since turning it off..and yes those stupid fan things in bedroom which is coldest room and north facing:T
Hurrah for progress..now do I beleive weather forecast and risk putting extra heater on? oh the delights of quick easy control..and saving money by switching things off whilst you are out:rolleyes::T then wait for an overnight to to get heat back on..0 -
It is ridiculous why people in wheelchairs (Who aren't yet 65) need less heat than people over 65, yet can be far more vulnerable.0

Well it is going to get even colder here the Sheltered Housing Association flat I live in is having its hall area painted ..so we need the main door open all day in this weather:T
I have asthma and paint is a real problem for me..GP has advised doubling my meds which isn't making me feel too good:rolleyes: I thought we were through worst as top half has been painted.. but Supervisor arrived 2 days into job and in his wisdom has overidden the prior decsion to complete the job with same satin water based paint and wants rest painted with gloss paint:mad:
we talking a very large area here first 4 foot of up the height of the wall all round and up staircase etc i worked out just downstairs would be about 132 sq feet of gloss or roughly 15/16 full size flat doors worth.you can proabably double that with area up stairs and around top landing
and seeing as just one doorsworth can be a nightmare for me
My neighbours up stairs are 89 and 90 and she spent 3 months in hosptial with chest infection last year and developed a heart condition....
I am so amazed they even think this is ok to do I don't know where to start to fight this ..
I think I am going to have no option but to move out possibly as I will need my energy to cope with this let alone fighting the HA ?
Any suggestions anyone?:rolleyes:0
