I am planning to wear suitable apparel.

I also find that i have a high tolerance to the cold. In fact my heating is hardly on.

i put this down to being out in the weather most of the day and so ive got used to that comfort level.

  • I was given a halogen heater....is it cheaper for me to just use that in the one room where I sit most of the day, rather than turn the central heating on to warm the entire house? I've heard different things about halogen heaters and their running costs, so am not quite sure if its true it would be cheaper.

I found this info on the Gas and Electricity thread re halogen heaters.

  • Warm underwear - The most importnat parts I feel are the feet, groin, knees, chest and head.

Get long johns on, a vest and a wooly hat and bobs your uncle.

Also go and find a cheaper company to do your gas/leccy and maybe spend some money on Led bulbs or similar - My overnight bulb is now a 0.3 Watt Led Bulb that costs me £8 - And I leave it on all night just to see my way to the toilet.
  • Thank you, Almar, for steering me in the direction of that thread - I'm going to give the halogen a go as what I need is direct heat on me whilst I'm working on the computer in just one room. Will beat having to heat the whole house, I reckon. :) I'll keep track of my electricity meter and see if it's cheaper. :)

I wish some provision was made for the disabled regarding fuel bills like it is the elderly. Does anyone know if there's an online petition or something to sign?
  • Hi
Our house is cold I have a big draft coming down the stairs and when I used to have the heating on ( over 2 years ago ) the cold air was always making the heating thermostat stay on so it would not switch off .our computer is in the hall so we sit with blankets on .
I have the gas fire on in the front room most of the day on low it does just take the chill off , but I have smaller throws on each of the sofa's for us ( 2 ) .
I have found also if you wear layers it is better .

Just a warning, I've been trying to just heat where I am and I've ended up with a big mould problem in the bedroom. So I'm going to have to start heating the whole flat regularly. So although it's cheaper not to, it's better in other ways.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

  • Thanks Ames. :) I switch the central heating on for about half an hour in the colder evenings, to keep things ticking over, as by then I want to sit in the living room have a shower etc - but during the day, the halogen in the bedroom where I work whithout having to heat the whole house does the trick for me. :)

I also wear layers, and have some nice hot soup and a crusty roll for lunch - inner central heating. ;)

I also have turned off the rad in the hall as it's right by the front door and is literally just money going out the door.
