  • :hello: Hey debtfreesomeday

Wow, that realy is a close move! Very DFW though...surely you will save lots on transport costs!:rotfl: I shall be crossing everything for Tuesday then. And good on your parents hepling you out like that, that's wonderful.

My MA will be in social work (for my sins!) I'm currently working for the local council as an assistant practitioner in adult services (very similar to the social workers - assessing etc just not doing the more complex cases) I can't wait to be fully qualifed and I'm excited about the course. But the more DFW I have become, the more worried I am getting about finances. I'll get a grant, plus some assistance from the council but it will still be a huge drop in income. Still, I know it will be worth it!

Have a good day, we're off to OH parents later on for his grandad's 80th birthday party....a little bit more civilised than last weekend's going-ons!

    Take care

To lose for the big day (lb) 2/51
  • Urgh, what a glum Monday... I don't know why (apart from not wanting to come to work!) but I'm in a really miserable mood today and it seems everyone else is too. Roll on Friday eh?!

Well, a great, and a not-so-great DFW weekend for us. Great, because we made a few sales on ebay and also one on Amazon; plus a sale of some household stuff via work, so made about £170. Not so great, because we decided to bite the bullet and pretty much finish all of our Christmas shopping online this weekend - we spent about £250.

As we are probably moving before Christmas now, any spare money from our next pay day will be going towards things we need to do to the new house before moving in, so we wouldn't be able to afford any Christmas shopping from those wages, and the next pay day it will be Christmas and too late to shop! So, reluctantly, for now, we put the Christmas shopping on the cleared egg card... BUT the £170 money we made this weekend will be used towards that when it all clears from my paypal account, plus any more we make from the ongoing ebay sales. We'll then clear it when we get paid in a week. Although I really hate paying by credit card, this is the best option for us at the moment and at least it will all be cleared by the end of the month.

Obviously, we did everything through Quidco :T and so did my Mother in law who used our computer at the weekend, so we made about £50 through that which will be paid out in Jan/Feb mostly.:j

We also had a major blitz of all the cupboards! We took a bag of stuff to the charity shop and put a few more bits on ebay and more books on Amazon. The house is clutter free now!

We also had to get a few bits of grocery shopping at the weekend. I made a list and we went to Sainsbury's with the intention of paying for the lot by nectar card as we didn't need a lot. Well, we stuck to the list but I added a few extra bits of cleaning products as they were massively reduced, plus a tin of biscuits for someone for Christmas, and the bill came to £35!!! We had £17 on our nectar card so I had to make up the rest on my card - I was shocked at the prices! I even bought all the cheapy basic brand where possible too! It is a smaller sainsbury's so I guess the prices may be more than the large stores?!?! Upon checking the receipt, found we'd been overcharged on 4 things so marched right back and got a refund! Now I remember why we don't shop in Sainsbury's often...
  • Well, a bit of good news - our house purchase has gone through and we pick the keys up next week. :j Ours is being valued today and will be put on the market now. Will be sad to see it empty but I guess it's just bricks and mortar. Really hope it sells quickly.
For an easy move, we're getting rid of a few more bits of furniture that we don't need to take with us - advertising them at work, so hopefully they'll be sold soon and that will be more money paid off on the egg card. :D

Had most of the first round of ebay payments in now and in the process of winging their way to my bank account from paypal. The fees they charge still wind me up but I try not to think about it!
I think I've exhausted our house for stuff to put on ebay/Amazon now so once the last lot of auctions are finished by the weekens I'll call it a day for a while. I'll leave the books listed on Amazon and see how it goes but I won't be listing any more on ebay.

Have done a couple more surveys over the past few days, although seen to be having trouble with one company not paying me, will have to chase them up.

Our online Christmas shopping purchases are starting to arrive now too so I shall be busy wrapping all that tonight to get it done before we move. Still have a roll of wrapping paper and a box of Christmas cards left over from last year that I didn't use, so no need to buy any - very DFW! :rotfl:

    Hi DFSD,

Good luck with the house move! I know there is a website called moveme.com where if you give them your old address and new address and moving date they will send you a box of freebies (I did this and got some Bounty, Energy saving lightbulbs, Cif, Toilet Rolls and longlife milk, they also send you a few coupons too!) thought you might like to give it a try!

As for all the ebaying stuff you are an inspiration! I am moving in feb and have been meaning to clear out this one particular cupboard of stuff for months, I must get to it see if there s anything I can flog! :D Its just the thought of trawling through a load of old tat and trying to imagine esomeone wanting to buy it that puts me off! Crusty old kettle anyone?! No well how about a tarnished incomplete set of cutlery or a few Chelsea Football club programmes!
  • Hi Effy :hello:

Thanks for the tip - I'll check that website out for sure!

As for ebay - I usually hate doing it, I find it such a long winded process and then packaging all the stuff up - urgh - but I knew I didn't want to move it all to another house and store it there either! Plus we got a good bit of money back on stuff so that's brill! I'm always surprised at what sells - I bet your chelsea football programmes go well for sure!
Good luck with your move too xx

  • Thanks MrsAudus2B x I am really pleased, just not looking forward to the next few weeks as I want to get moved, get everything tidied up in the new house and sell our old house, and I know I won't rest until I've done so!
  • My DFW week has gone out of the window a little with the buying of more Christmas presents. However, only need to spend about £10 more and then I'M DONE! That'll be a relief!

I posted two ebay parcels today, one cost me £2.99 more in postage than I charged the buyer so was a little annoyed at that. I also have 4 more auctions finishing today so hopefully payment for those will come in quickly and I can start making some payments on my egg card.

It's a week until payday, and I always find the last week is when everything runs away with me, budget-wise. At the moment, I have no idea if we're within our budget for everything (but I have a feeling we're not!) :o. I have no idea how much we've spent lately and I feel like it's all getting on top of me. I think tonight I'm going to go through all my receipts from the last week and try and catch up with things and get everything clear in my mind. I'm always so motivated and enthusiastic the first week after payday, but I just struggle to keep it up as the month goes on.

I definitely agree with that - seems to get harder to motivate yourself once the initial allocation of funds is done on payday.

well done for keeping on track :T
