My eldest daughter,is more of a texter than a voice caller.

She's currently on 02 payg, but I've just seen the 02 sim only deal,on their website.

Because she's only 14,I won't put her on contract, for obvious reasons, but she gets about £30 per month on her payg phone, and I've seen the Online 100 deal, sim only, which is £25,and gives 200 mins and 1000 texts. This seems the obvious choice.

How does it work?
That's my mutt in the picture above.

  • You only get a sim card, no handset.

The contract length is a minimum of 30 days. Then after that it is a rolling monthly contract until you give 30 days notice to cancel.

You are able to use more than the 200mins and 1000 texts for which you will get charged and billed for. So giving your daughter a contract sim card in my opinion could be dangerous, especially if she was to subscribe to those ringtones you see advertised on the telly.

The o2 PAYG sim would be cheaper and more secure should your daughter lose her phone (huge bills can be run up on a contract sims before you report it lost). For a £10 top-up you get 300 free text and the £10 can be used for calls. But even better, you can use the £10 to fund a £7.99 bolt-on bundle of 50 mins of calls per month.
Even if you ended up topping up £20 per month she would get 600 text, 50 mins Xnet anytime calls + £12.01 worth of calltime. Plus, after a qualifying period, she would get 10% of her top-ups credited back to the sim every 3 months.
On a basic tariff, 600 text would cost £72 (@12p each) and 50 non-same network calls (@45p per min) would cost £22.50.
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.

Also think that its mad to put a teenager on a contract. The chances of running up a large bill are very high and one guess who will have to foot the bill?

So would those 600 texts be free then?

How whould she get 600 texts? You only get 300 texts no matter how much you put on with the online PAYG tariff

Best bet might be a t-mobile 'u-fix' tariff, for £x you get x mins / y textas per month but to use more you have to top up - ie the bill can not increase - and if you look around (try scancom) you may findd a discounted line rental deal by redemption.
    I think....

I think you're getting mixed up here - max O2 provide is 300 free texts plus the money you topped up with wither as texts or minutes.

    Orange do scheme of £10 = 300 texts, £20 = 600, £30 = 1000 but not sure if any minutes included
