I have to say that this isn't always true. I have parked at Heathrow on several occasions and found it to be reasonably priced - it really depends on the time of year and what deals are on offer at the time.

I'd advise the OP to at least check out the BAA parking website http://secure.baa.com/


It is always cheaper to book in advance through the web.
