How do I get to London Heathrow?

Hello this is my first post to MSE and I'm hoping someone can help.

I was just wondering if anyone had any tips on the best way to get from York to Heathrow Airport? I booked a holiday and was forced to get the flights from London Heathrow as this saved a fortune on the booking price, but now I'm stuck trying to find the cheapest way of getting there without spending all the cash I've saved

Any suggestions please ??

National Express.com - not the coaches -well, you could, but the train. they have very cheap fares available directly through their website, especially booking that far in advance. :)

Also have a look at Grand Central Railways fares. They have a few direct York to London trains daily. Then tube to Heathrow.

  • To be honest I think the least hassle way is to drive and park - parking might not be as expensive as you think.

In August I flew from Heathrow. I live near Blackpool. For much too long I pondered between taking the train to Watford junction, then Bus to Heathrow-or, train to Manchester, then plane to Heathrow. The closer to my flight, the more expensive the flight was. My conscience got the better of me, and I decided that I should think of my carbon footprint and took the train to Watford junction, then bus..
Never again!! The train journey was like being on a cattletruck, standing, and not enough room for luggage, which was piled high, and I found it very, very difficult, getting on/off trains/ traversing platforms/bus stops/finding trolleys etc! And even worse, returning on a Sunday.
Even though I care about the planet, I have to say that I would not repeat the experience.
    Next time. I will fly!

If you drive, forget parking at Heathrow itself, as this will be £$£$£$£$£$.

Instead find a hotel that lets you stay there the night before your flight, parking your car with them & extending your break by another bay.

This will be LESS than on airport parking, get you a shuttlebus to/from the airport, have your car looked after, save hassle & unknown delays giving you grief, on your journey down, plus gets you a longer break, for little £$£$.

Talk to the agent you booked the break through - I'd have thought they'd have offered it anyway.
