I`d have to let her have her way too. If it was several years ago I would stick it out.
You also need to hide an open tin of sardines somewhere too! If there`s an airing cupboard that would be the best place.0 -
Also compared to how much you might need to pay for three weeks accommodation £800 is not really that much. Will it not save you a bit on your mortgage too if you sell more quickly?
Painful but I think the look back phiolosophy will save you much agro and if house prices keep dropping it will keep you warm that you sold a house now worth less to her.0 -
offer to pay for her to stay in local guest house - she wont pull out...0

Thanks for the posts guys - here's the update.
This morning I went to our estate agent and said "look, we cannot possibly move out by tomorrow, or even Sunday but to sweeten the deal, here is £500 towards their mortgage (our xmas box money but what the hey). They rang me later to tell me that they had taken her to see another property today but in their words "a real muckhole", possibly on purpose, to get her to see some reality. They relayed our offer and she said she would bear it in mind. They also told me that she was going to see another couple of properties with other agents tonight.
My wife thinks she is getting cold feet, wants out of the deal and was being unreasonable to get us to pull it but if this is so, why start the whole process again, including paying search fees etc.
also - we had a piece of mail for her yesterday, her car insurance documents, sent to our address!?! Why do that if you weren't serious in buying it?
I am coming to the conclusion that she is unhinged but we'd like it sold so we're going to give her till Monday to come to her senses.

I would call her bluff and accept. Find out how much extra the removal company wants to pack (save you time) and store for a few weeks.0

Just say yes, exchange and let her sue for completion on Friday.

Surely storage for all your stuff for three weeks, plus guest house for you and the little one will cost a lot, not to mention the nightmare of living with a small child like that.
It sucks big time, but I'd be tempted to offer her £1000 which would cover her mortgage plus bills for another month. She can't say no to that if that's the real reason for what she's doing.
I agree re car insurance - she should be serious about the sale if she's having things addressed to your house. I suspect she's doing a roundabout form of gazundering as others have said. Since you're emigrating, just throw some cash at her and get out. It's a terrible market for trying to find a buyer in and that's working against you.

I would be inclined to contact her directly and hear it from the cow's mouth, or is it horses! Anyway, let the agent know what you’re doing. Remember, the agent is there to find a buyer, it is your solicitor’s job to see that it exchanges. Agents are in a better position to deal with problems like this but there is nothing stopping you getting more involved.

Hi all,
Firstly thanks for your interest and advice - much appreciated as always.
The upshot is that it was a put-up job all along. She's been looking at other properties and has decided to buy a cheaper one, although why she couldn't have told us a week or so ago and spared us all, especially my wife who mentally was on the plane, a lot of heartache and stress.
Back to the fray on Monday Morning then (if your interested)
Will be on at £162,000 but will take £160k

ps - special shout out to Redcar. I'm from Middlesbrough and it's ok; not as lovely as it was mind - but where is?0
