Problems getting broadband in a new house

~Hi all
I am moving into a new house next week and want to get broadband and phone sorted asap so that I don' have to wait too long once I've moved in.
Problem is though, that whilst
there is a phone line to the house, when I tried to apply for a Tiscali broadband and phone bundle, they said there was a problem with the line and to call BT about it.
Four hours whorth of to-ing and fro-ing between Tiscali and BT and I am not any closer to determining what is blocking the line. Bt keep telling me that there is nothing blocking the line though when enter my details on samknows its says this:
ADSL is available in your area
Your exchange is also enabled for ADSL Max services
Your exchange is not yet enabled for WBC services (ADSL2+)
According to BT Wholesale, your phone line should be able to support a 6.5Mbps or faster connection via ADSL Max.
Standard ADSL RAG results
You can receive 2Mbps ADSL
You can receive 1Mbps ADSL
You can receive 512kbps ADSL
You can receive 256kbps ADSL
You are approximately 82 metres from the exchange. Note that this is the straight line distance - the actual cable length will be longer!
However, there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection.
» Your BT ADSL code is: GEGEGEC
So what is going on? The line to the house is still in the landlords name- could this be the problem? Does the landlord need to cancel the line? If they do would I have to pay to re-activate it?
Thanks for your help!

are you checking a telephone number to get the results or just a post code check? you will need an active line to check broadband availability. if you dont have an active line then you cant move to Tiscali as they dont do reconnections.0

How can the OP be using a post code to check when it states "there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection"

There is obviously an active line but why you would want to go to Tiscali, OP please do some more research! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
If its a working line in your landlords name you want be able to move it so thats why Tiscali  are probaly referring you to BT .
If you arrange with your landlord to stop it and for you to start it BT will not normally charge you a fee,but will require you to take out a 12 month line rental contract which will be subject to a £70 early cancellation fee if you decide to move from them.
Personally i would give Tiscali  a very wide berth.0
