Which one are you losing? The wired connection or the wireless one?angela2095 wrote:Hi again, Well I done it!! Unfortunately I keep losing my internet connection. Going to read a bit more see if i can figure it out.0 -
The wired one, although once I got the router working I turned off the computer upstairs and disconnected everything as it is a xmas pressie! So at the moment I have also turned off the router downstairs so I can browse freely.0

Leave the wireless computer upstairs for the moment and concentrate on getting the wired one working via the router, otherwise the wireless one won't work either.
G'luck

Make sure that 'Idle Timeout' isn't selected on in your router settings.

Hi, again, well I give up!! Plugged everything in again and now I cant even connect to the internet!! I have decided to pop down to PC world tomorrow and buy a brand new router (got the netgear from Ebay). Just been looking on their website, should I go for the Belkin? I really need something that is easy to set up, and works!!!! Thanks again Angela. ps. there will be so many tears if I havent sorted this out by christmas day.0

Check out the MR814 Support pages. I'm looking at the Reference Manual for the MR814v3 (your device might be a different version) and Chapter 3 shows the cable connections and describes the correct sequence for starting the network:
"Warning: Failure to restart your network in the correct sequence could prevent you from
connecting to the Internet.
a. First, turn on the broadband modem and wait 2 minutes.
b. Now, plug in the power cord to your router and wait 1 minute.
c. Last, turn on your computer."

thanks, read all of that and tried it all, in fact been trying it for days!! Thing is, bought the router from ebay, there might be a problem with it (although i did have it working at one point) thats why i've decided to cut my losses and buy a new one. maybe i'll have one more try!!0

I am not alone then! This week I've spent 4-5 hours every night sorting the wireless connection and card out. Never give up.....until you're bored. At least it's MSE friendly because it wastes loads of time for no cost.Happy chappy0
