I have just noticed a little green box bottom right, when I put the arrow over it it says CPU usage 100%, can you tell me what this is and if is OK, My PC is running very very slow, all my scans are ok so wondered if this could be the reason.
Thank-you

There is something wrong if CPU usage is 100%. Can you give some details about your computer (operating system, processor, memory)? Also, do you have Nero InCD installed?0

Is it run 100% most of the time? If it is, something is wrong. Occasionally programs that do high intensive cpu cycles can take up 100% for small periods a seconds or so, but if its running that high all the time then a program is running and take too much processor cycles. The only programs that normally take that amount of cpu cycles are programs like benchmarks or SETI programs doing high intensive mathmetical functions.
If you press alt+ctrl+del togther windows task manager will load up, look at the tab process and glide down to see in cpu what porgram is taking the most cpu cycles0 -
I would download microsoft anti spyware
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=321cd7a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en
and run that to see if you have a spyware infection
do you have anti virus software ??
if not download and run AVG

Thank you for your replies, I have XP (without sp2wont download I don't think I have space) I think it is 128 and 64 if you know what this is. I am In the process of writing down all the info on the task man. but looking quickly ewiodguard.exe is 68 cpu this seems to be the highest fig.
Scotty, I don't think I have Nero incd (don't really know what it is).
I will be back soon with the cpu details. (32 processes)
I also have AVG, kerio(with problems) prevx, ad wear, spybot and a few others.
thanks

ewiodguard is part of Ewido , you can urn that part off i think, or dlete the program for now and see if it cures the problemEx forum ambassador

As Browntoa implies you need to be careful not to have too many programs trying to "protect" your PC all at once. They could easily conflict with each other. You should have a planned list of programs.shellyd wrote:Thank you for your replies, I have XP (without sp2wont download I don't think I have space) I think it is 128 and 64 if you know what this is. I am curious why you can't update to SP2. In this day & age SP2 is vital to keeping your PC safe.
Do you know if you have a valid copy of XP? I ask because I have come across others who say they can't download but, on further investigation, the problem is that they are using an invalid copy which - often - was installed by "a friend" or somesuch.
Suggest you try to upgrade to SP2 again and let us know if your download is refused or you encounter other problems.
Also I am interested as to what other programs are running as, even if ewidoguard is at 68%, that still means the rest of your running processes are using 32% (which is still way too high). What else is using up the CPU?0 -
I am running in background ewidoguard.exe 00 CPU 3.6mb and ewidoctrl 0 cpu 380k and is taking no cpu cycles at all at present although its not running a scan mealy protection pc.0

Microsoft will send you a SP2 disk
If you've got a friend with broadband access I'd show them this article which shows how to download updates for putting on another computer0 -
If you click on the "cpu" tab it will sort the list in order of CPU usage - 1st click in ascending (pretty useless), 2nd click will then put the CPU hog at top of the listPoppycat wrote:If you press alt+ctrl+del togther windows task manager will load up, look at the tab process and glide down to see in cpu what porgram is taking the most cpu cycles0 -
