hello

My motorola v220 stopped working about 2 weeks ago. It was new in July. I have it on a contract from mobileshop.com. I had to send phone back to motorola service center for repair. I got it back today with a report saying it was damaged due to 'water ingress' and they are not responsible to repair it.

The thing is I know that the phone has not been in contact with water and I think Motorola are just getting rid of me.

Has anyone else encountered these kind of garantee problems?

Can I take this any further?

  • Motorola 9/10 times come back to us with water damage, you don't have to drop in in a pint for water damage it can be rain, using it or even in your pocket, also I have had a lady who jogged to work and it was sweat damage, if the phone gets and mosture it breaks down.

On newer Motorola they have a white disc behind the battery, it turns black or red if any mosture gets in.

Sorry, I have around 20 water damaged Motorola's here, if you had used MPRC, part of phones4U, they charge £15 for just looking at a water damaged phone.

that only shows there has been no moisture in that area
ask them for a copy of the xray shots that show the liquid damage
  • Belzie - water damage is a 50%-50% repair the pcb,. the service centres would just simply put a new pcb in there (if it was claimed under inc.),. didnt the motorola service center charge u cuzs the phone was water damage? i know samsung have a fee of 17£ if the phone u send under warranty is found too be water damaged,.. (its a wasting there time fee :) )

i would invest in a new handset,.. but if u want too give it 1 last fix,.. open it up and have a look at were the ingress is and try to clean it up,.. and let it dry out over night,..

Reading this I thought that I had posted it. This is exactly what happened to me. My phone has never been near water and that excuse about rain or sweat causing it to fail does not say much about the quality of motorola phones. At best their phones are to be avoided due to their unreliability and at worst they are a bunch of liars. In the end I decided that both are true so am never buying their phones again. My phone broke down less than a month after getting it so I still had my free insurance to fall back on but they were asking for an excess of about £25 which is not good value if it goes loopy again. I have seen independent repair centers offering water damage repairs for about the same price but they do not offer any guarantees either so if I was you I would ditch it and get a phone from a proper manufacturer.

most of my repair work is water damaged phones - but its impossible to guarantee the outcome as the component damage and corrosion is unknown
repair rate is prob about 75%
  • Bought a Motorola U6 Pebl in matt black as a Xmas gift for somebody. They came back to me at the weekend to tell me that the matt black coating has started to bubble and it got so bad she has had to peel bits of it off.

Called Virgin who I had bought it from and they say their Techincal Service have never heard of such a thing and despite the fact the person I gave it to assures me it was not abused, or let near heat or had anything spilled on it, they are puting it down to "User Damage" (even though they have not actually seen the phone itself) and therefore not willing to replace, fix it.

    Any ideas?
