NTL 1&2mb Going uncapped

ntl has informed us that the 1Mb and 2Mb broadband speed tiers will go unlimited from January 2006 with no change in the price. This means ntl broadband internet subscribers on these speed tiers, can from January 2006, surf the internet and download as much as they like.

  • For uncapped I would have thought they would have to bring in some sort of traffic shaping to stop the P2Pers from downloading 24/7. Or maybe nowadays that's not a problems on the 1/2meg lines than the big 10/meg monsters out.

Looking at it, their 1 and 2 meg aren't exactly cheap at the moment considering there are others offing the same speeds with no download limits for around the same price. Guess they are just bringing their products in line with their prices.
  • Wonder will they do the same with their virgin.net broadband service. Hope so!

There is a fair usage policy clause, as always!

  • The only other country I've been to that has caps (other than rip off UK of course ;)) is Canada.

There was no mention of it in their terms and conditions but I had 60GB of file transfers in my first month of service and they advised me that this was not acceptable :D hehe

They did ask if I was using P2P software.

They were good about it and just advised me to reduce my upload speed in Kazaa Lite to a trickle...this was a few years back ;)..as you can tell by using Kazaa Lite.
  • is the uncapped service available to customers that arent on ntl broadband already?

It should be for both old and new customers. Only 10MB will have a cap.

  • ive spoken to ntl and they advised me that the 3b broadband will go up to 10mb soon enough but it will have a cap. i use peer to peer all the time, i donwload constanly. what will ntl do if i go over. the person on the phone said that they dont do much just a letter. that they cant force me to pay more. is this true, or will i have to move too a more expensive package with a higher cap.
  • I thought NTL were upgrading all their speeds upto 10meg (with a cap) over the early part of this year. Not really worried at the moment as I'm only paying £9.99 a month with them for 1meg for the next 7 months!
