    It was more than likely AdAware that removed or broke AOL as AOL
    is basically a virus as it strangles all other aspects of a PC.

    I have managed to fix the problem, I logged in to safe mode and uninstalled all the programs i had put on the other day then rebooted it and set up a new aol user. works fine now, thanks to everyone who advised me.

    dont forget to back up before making changes!!! ive learnt my lesson!!!
