Selling a car abroad

Hi guys,

To cut a long story short and guy in Bosnia has agreed to buy my car. His friend who lives in the UK has come to view the car and they are happy to continue the sale.

Regarding the DVLA I just fill in section 11 with a letter stating the change of ownership and send this to them. I then give the rest of the V5 to the new owner of the car.

The bloke from bosnia also stated they need a sales agreement in place between myself and him so that they can get the car from the uk through Coratia onto its destination.

How to i get a legal sales agreement in place?

Also has anyone had any experience with this kind of sale before. Any help would be great.

I don't think this is a scam. He is willing to transfer the money directly to my account. The bloke who viewed it seemed normal.

I am missing anything here, possibly scam??? Cheers

Could be genuine, but be very careful. I certainly wouldn't accept a cheque or bankers draft. Paying into your account means you have to give your sort code/account number. This on it's own may not be particularly sensitive, but with your address and a few other bits of info, it could be the basis of identity fraud.

Generally speaking, selling to someone abroad is a bad idea. If anthing doesn't smell right, I'd back out of the transaction.

Was initially suspicious but after meeting his friend it does seem okay.

Maybe I could ask for cash and then pay this straight into the bank before i hand over the car.

Has anyone got any ideas how to get a sales agreement in place? Can you just do it yourself?

I forgot to mention. I haven't had much interest in the car with the current financial climate so another deal probably isn't going to come along soon.

It may not be a scam, but I would prefer to miss a sale than go ahead with this. Why would a guy in Bosnia want a right hand drive car? Germany is much nearer and full of second-hand cars, generally cheaper than ours, with left hand drive; why does he want to buy one from here? The whole scenario sounds very suspicious indeed. If you do go ahead be warned that funds that initially clear in your bank account can be claimed back months later by the bank if the transaction turned out to be fraudulent.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

Also it will require a UK Name and Address on the V5, or it will need to be formally recorded as exported.

As others have said, you need to be extremely careful, this just doesn't sound legitimate.

Not if the notes are fake. Will you be able to tell?

I go to Croatia/Bosnia quite often and as iolanthe07 says, many Croats/Bosnians buy from Germany, as it's the cheapest method to pick up a few year old vehicle.

The more I think about it, I can't think why a Bosnian would take the trouble to import a right hand drive car from the UK.

If you don't mind telling us, what is the vehicle and price?

    Where did you advertise it?

what if i am able to take the cash to the bank and pay it in before i release the car?

    Its a Peugeot 406 Coupe.

Price £2000. For sale on Pistonheads.

The guy said the car is for his dad as his dad used to have a Automatic Peugeot and wants another one.

The guy emailing me and his friend run the 205gtiforum club thingy so they are into their Peugeots.

Only you really know the full story here, by all means, if you think it is OK, go ahead with the sale, personally I would not.;)

    It's your call.

Good conmen always seem genuine, that's what makes them good:rolleyes: .

If you are going to sell for cash get the buyer to go with you to the bank and only release the documents to him after the bank has accepted the money as genuine.

    Personally I think it's a scam.
