I would love some sort of solid fuel burner put in but OH wont hear of it. Says it will be too messy.

It won't be. Trust me - I had one in my previous house.

Get a multi-fuel that can burn coke/wood/coal and in the depths of winter you'll never regret it. In fact it's that snuggly, he'll have your babies... ;)

A trailer load of wood was going to cost about £30.

I can only agree with Zed, was brought up in houses with wood burning stoves and lovely they were too. Not messy at all!

He can keep the bloomin babies:eek:

What do they look like Zed?, OH is a bit of a houseproud fusspot you know:rolleyes:

Our last house had a coal fire and in the winter the coal pail would drip coal juice all over the carpet, not to mention the mess of cleaning it out every morning. I wouldnt mind one in the living room instead of this living flame waste of money thing.

We will have to keep the gas for the central heating though.

Best place to see the whole gamut of designs is Google Images. The one I had looked a bit like this, but with a lot less decoration.

The ash is a problem if you burned stuff which made a lot of ash. Wood = good. Plastic packaging = good. Argos catalogues = loads of ash...

That's the system I had - combi for hot water and radiators, and wood burning stove in the living room.

Didn't actually put the radiators on very much as the fire warmed the whole house.

Oh you have set me off now Zed..............;)

I like this one and it would probably be able to fit into the existing surround that we have.

If you go looking for wood in the errrmm woods dont you have to leave it for a while before you can burn it?

It would be ideal for my cauldron too:D
