  • there's that word again... "dodgy"....

Oh and just to correct a couple of details.... she aint the missus, she's my ex girlfriend and she doesn't own half the house, she owns half the equity (actually she doesn't, her credit card company owns a fair proportion of her share, but thats another story all together..:( )

Think what I'm gonna do is put it on the market at a price of her choosing and then wait until she caves.

Its gonna be a long winter....

What an old-fashioned attitude. It's effectively the same thing in the eyes of the law. Gone are the days when the man can walk away with everything. Hope you don't have a nice big pension or other assets she can claim.

hell..... what is it with this place ?

I've been called a scammer, dodgy and now old fashioned. All because I want to give my ex what she's due and move on with the minimum of fuss.

If I'm gonna get this much flack then I might just say fek it and do a Jordache on her.

(Do I have to explain that the last bit is a joke, an attempt at humour based upon an 80's soap reference ?..... just a thought)

I dont know why so many people seem to think you are out to scam your ex. Sounds to me you are trying to make a hard situation easy by offering her a buy out price at market prices from a year ago. more than fair as i see it.

She seems stuck with some crazy valuation ideas and you plan on offering another fair price just without her knowing its you, i dont see where people see a scam anyone who does decide to offer on the house is going to go in lower that what illuminate is offering.

I am sure there must be a way to keep your identity secret, have you asked any lawyers or can any on here advise. anyway i wish you all the best and hope you dont get stuck with the ex for too long

No there isn't. The solicitors will demand to know who is bidding, and will run a mile at the possible conflict of interest of trying to buy with a furtive client who turns out to be represented by the same solicitors as his ex, the other seller.

The whole thing is barking mad.

So let me repeat what was said many posts ago: Like it or not your wife owns half the house, and sooner or later you are going to have to sort something out with her. If that is not possible, then there are other legal remedies that can force a sale.

  • thanks for the support, at least somebody can see this for what it is.

Like I said, I've decided to let her choose the selling price and we wait it out.

When she finally runs out of patience and sees the error of her ways she can except my offer. However it will be at current market values not the price I previously offered her.

Her fault for mucking me around and being delusional about the value.

I would get another 3 agents in, when the average price shows much lower than 6 months ago, surely something has to click sometime? Prices of 18months ago that she seems to be holding out for are a distant memory now.

Maybe in time she will realise that your offer of the price 6 months ago is actually fair.

If not...good luck on the market...or bad luck... as the case may be ;)

Your ex sounds like her head is in the clouds. If it was legal, a good slap would be in order. And I'm surprised you've not done it already.

I am in a similar situation with my mother who has accepted the value of her home has dropped somewhat, but still not enough. Sigh!!
