Beware Volvo Cars

Last time I checked, buying a 4x4 was not illegal. As for environmental concerns, my Nissan Navarra averages around 34mpg. Not bad for a vehicle that can carry 5 adults in comfort and about a tonne of cargo.
There are many reasons why people buy 4x4s. For me it was a practical choice. Feeling superior to people like Chri5 is just a bonus!

I hope your Nissan is not one of these, as the engine is prone to blowing up. Seen on watchdog this week, http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/watchdog/ The problem affects Nissan D22s, built before August 2006.

I think I may have seen someone just like you today - I was doing 45 in a 60 (because I am a learner, and because there was a 30 limit about 100 feet away). The guy behind (in an XC90) was doing at least 65 as he came up behind me - only slowed down after he was pretty much touching my bumper, and then, once in the 30 zone (doing 35-40 at the time) decided to pelt it past me with his giant penis extensi- i mean, errr, 4x4.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

This is just a warning to people thinking of buying a Volvo XC90, I have a 2004 model with only 89,000 miles on it and it has a major transmission problem requiring a £1350 outlay. Volvo UK say this is perfectly acceptable even though the service history is pure Volvo and complete. They refuse to contribute towards the repair costs. The last but one service cost the previous owner £1500!!!! It has never been off road or towed yet has still developed a very dangerous fault. Volvo say it could seize up and cause the car to roll over. Be very carefull buying any second hand 4 wheel drive Volvo as they have some serious reliability issues, read the web sites and search for forums which back up these problems.

If it's second hand how do you know?
  • Just try a gearbox specialist then? Loads cheaper too...
