My son bought an Xbox yesterday & is having trouble connecting it so he can play Live. It says IP FAILED.
He has it connected to his Laptop which is wireless. Any suggestions?
Thanks

I'm pretty sure when I say this, but dont you need to connect it to a router???
You will need to plug the xbox direct into a router, or buy the wireless adapter if the router isn't in the same room.0 -
I tried the site Cranky suggested - no luck. I have left my son speaking to Microsoft & hopefully she will help. Where would we buy the Xbox Wireless adaptor?
Thanks

You should be able to get one from any shop that sells a xbox 360 - curry's dixons game or gamestation.
There approx £60 though!!!0 -
have you turned the router/modem off and then back on again??? sometimes they don't issue an ip address until you have turned everything off then back on againIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -

has he set up internet connection sharing on his laptop, he must do this, if it running xp this is no problem to do. go to control panel, network connections, right click on the wireless network connection, select advanced and then tick allow others to share this internet connection. if his laptop is running vista, then it is more complicated, you will have to change the router ip address,0

and no the xbox does not NEED to plug into the router, i have one plugged straight in, one sharing through a laptop and one using an xbox wireless adaptor0

life would be so much easier for you if you connected it straight to the router via cable.....or direct wirelessIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

I second connecting it to the router via wired or wireless using 1 of these, it depends what the distance is between the 360 and the router as its not far then you could use wired means0
