"Would you like the hanger with that, madam?"

Ladies (usually),

If you're buying clothes which come on one of those hangers that has the two spring loaded clips on and you're offered the hanger - take it.

When you get home, break the hanger in two, slide off the clips, throw away the hanger and you're left with a couple of decent sized food/freezer bag clips.

Very good idea - however, I have noticed recently that many shops no longer offer and you have to ask!

But most shops, if you ask, will give you loads. Very useful as I buy most of my stuff from eBay!

  • I didn't really like those hangers - I do now. ;)
  • I never take them as we use those ten for a pound ones from woolies, I hate having a jumble of hangers in the wardrobe. I will keep an eye open for these now, what a brilliant idea!
  • yeah, yeah - it's a good idea but not very environmentally friendly.

Plant a tree to make up for this and I'll let you off.

I used to use these as a clip for filter coffee. Works well.
  • Before I discovered this site, I always said "no" to the freebie hangers and bought colour co-ordinated ones, pink for DD, purple for me and blue for DH - what a waste of cash

On the rare occassions I buy clothes from a non-charity shop I nearly always ask for the hangers. I use them for hanging washing (shirts, pants, t-shirts etc) indoors to dry when I can't hang stuff outside (raining or we're going out!). It saves ironing time AND floor space especially since I only have 1 wash-maiden. If I hang the stuff in the airing cupboard it can be dry overnight ;)
