Vetinary Practices

My two cats are coming up to that age now where they need to be snipped, injected and chipped. I got a quote of £165 per cat from petsathome(companion care) but thought this was very steep. I have since found a place in bolton for £110 per cat which includes everything petsathome offered.

I am just wondering if anyone has been to these vets or heard anything about them. They are called Regan & Colleagues and seem to hae practices all over the uk.

pets at home have vets now? i would steer well clear and use a dedicated vet practice, the level of ongoing care will be far superior.

The vets located in Pets at Home stores are dedicated practices and have been in business for 13 years now! Why would the level of care be "far superior" in any other practice? :rolleyes:

fair do's. i was wrong. i was just under the impression that the Pets At Home vets were employed by them directly...hence probably a high turnover of staff...lower wages and all that entails...

still, they seem rather expensive compared to non-PAH vets - even my local vet charges less for that combination of procedures, and he is considered expensive.

The Pets At Home Vets are part of a corporate chain of vets based throughout the UK.

These corporates (various ones now) offer uniformity of service and price but not necessarily value for money. Their corporate structure means that they necessarily need staff who are not interested in the long term. They often offer cheaper headline fees to get people through the door, only to really stiff them once they need something else done.

Corporate practices are buyng established practices at a fearsome pace (backed by city money- Hur Hur!!) and will become a common feature very soon. The necessity to make a return on their investments mean they are not necessarily good value for the customer.

If you would like your vets to be a McVets then use them - many clients feel secure with a McVet but if you wish a more traditional service then use an established practice.

= £115 and I'm not cheap.

But if you are in Bolton then a cheapo Vacc/Neuter clinic will do all that for even less in the Manchester area - look 'em up on t'internet.

Regans used to be independent but are now owned by CVS, a large, stock market listed company. CVS own over a dozen practices in the Bolton, North Manchester as well as others elsewhere in the country. £110 is exactly the same as we would charge but you don't have topay it all at once. Half approx at 9 weeks old, microchip at 2nd vacc (12 weeks) and £30 castrate at 6 months old. I am not aware of any vaccine clinics in Bolton but there are independant vets who you could get a price from but remember, quality of overall service is more important than absolute price.

where abouts are you then? do you have your own practice?

If you are local to Bolton then ring up Pennine vets. There is one in Harwood and one in Tottington.


They are really lovely and reasonably priced.

I have my own practice in the Greater Manchester / Lancashire area but I don't think it appropriate to be more specific. I like a bit of anonymity on here but yes, I am responsible for setting prices.
