We went to Disneyland Paris, but went via plane. Would love to go to America, but the journey would be too long.

We're going again next year, and I did consider the ferry, but again it would make the journey even longer, so plane it is.

I think we will be doing the same.

Last time we went we obtained a blue disabled ticket in Disneyland. This was absolutely invaluable in avoiding the worst of the queues.

Definitely worth getting again, otherwise you can spend ages waiting in line.

    hi all

    Thanks for the replies.

I'll take them all on the chin.

To clarify, this was for a regular poster on this forum who has lost his DLA benefit. He emailed me (we have communicated off board for a while). He reckons it was because he had two weeks away in Benidorm.

My original post echoed the type of comments he has had on the helpline (he has asked for recordings via the FOI act) and from other claiments.

Amazing that he got the same response here (despite comments about a warmer climate helping him).

Bozo (tell them Some Bozo on the internet told you so!).

It would have all been so much easier had you just asked for help, rather than posting something set to wind up the very people who could help . This includes those who have faced all manner of accusatory questions from petty bureaucrats - (who often adopt a similar manner to your OP) and seem to think that they are personally funding DLA! This includes just about everyone from the advisor on the Benefits Line to the right wing GP's (often resembling Dr Mengele) that they send out to visit claimants:eek:.

However, as I have often said - no one can see the expression or hear the tone of posters on the net.

In the interests of actually helping your friend - he should first take a look at https://www.bhas.co.uk where there is a wealth of information on how to fill in the forms. After reading this he should contact his local Welfare Rights office - for additional help in filling the forms in, plus if he needs to go to a tribunal an officer will attend with him.

He can write to the Benefits Agency for copies of their visiting GP's report - which they must send him. If it is some illegible photocopy of a hand written report he can insist it is typed and there is a time limit for them to send him this.

Finally if he feels he has had his benefit revoked for a spurious reason, he should contact his MP and request his support in having the matter addressed by the Secretary of State - the Rt Hon Alan Johnson MP.

Unfortunately we live in a country where the old and the sick are an easier target than multi-national corporations who get away with millions every year in tax evasion. If the government pursued these companies with the same vigour that they use against the disabled, they would have more than enough funds to double the rate of benefits and pensions for those who really need them.

I really do hope this helps - if your OP was a genuine query. If it wasn't then I hope it gives some insight into what some of us badly disabled people are up against!

I'd like to think my history of helping here and the job seeking board is proof enough that I am not here to wind anyone up.

I have told my "friend" to contact the mods here and ask if he can create an throw account to post and get the help he needs direct.

    I have been burned as a go-between.

Please see above quote, this wasn't me being facetious.

I really don't know what else I can say - if you go back to my previous post, I've listed everything that I did in a similar situation, which is probably more than he would need. I hope you will pass this info on to him.

The final outcome was that I had my DLA reinstated at the correct rate, without having to go through the additional stress and trauma of a further tribunal.

My OH gets DLA for a mental health problem and he works full time... we go on two trips a year (one abroad and one UK break, plus he comes with me if I go home)
As far as I was concerned its not a problem... mum and dad who are both on disabilty benefit (dad OAP, mum medically retired) have just come back from Turkey as mum has just recovered form fluid on the lungs and mum's doc said the warm weather would help her... my sis (supervisor at DWP) checked and there wasnt a problem.
So I suspect he is either not telling you the full story or there's some other reason.

Just to let you know that it appears that the bhas website seems to have disappeared in all but name!

If you mean the Secretary of State for the DWP Alan Johnson went some time ago and there have been a number of changes since, the current one being James Purnell.

You are indeed correct regarding James Purnell - it was Alan Johnson I contacted. However the bhas.co.uk site formerly bhas.org is still a useful entry point with lots of links to filling in DLA forms

Sorry but I can't find anything remotely useful on that site either. It seems to just point to a series of other urls and sites when you click on any links. I certainly can't find anything like the sort of useful information they used to provide, unless of course I'm missing something.
