Help needed for orphanages in Bulgaria

Hi all, I was hoping that some of you could help me.

We have property out in Bulgaria and recently found out about the state the orphanages are in. They are sleeping in damp bedding and there is ice on the windows, some days they dont even get a meal.

Some of the children dont even have socks or underwear, soap, shampoo or even pyjamas and essential items. They have no toys to play with most of them share a bed because there is not enough beds

I am trying to get hold of some items new or used that i can take out with me in december.

I would be very greatful if you could donate some items to help the orphans.

The kids ages are from 9 years old to 17 years old.

The girls dont even have sanitary products

steph, where abouts would people need to send items to? Could they drop them off somewhere?

Hi, thank you for your message.

You can send the items to me and I will take them with me when I go in December.

Balkan holidays are allowing us an extra 20 kilos each for all the donations.

I can pm you my address if you like?

I dont expect anyone to pay postage to Bulgaria as it would cost a fortune.

You might want to get in contact with the charity which was set up as a result of Kate Blewitt's harrowing documentary exposing Bulgarian orphanages. They have worked extremely hard over the last year and are making a real difference in these children's lives.

Hi,

Thank you for that. There are many orphanages in Bulgaria that need help not just these two. The problem with Bulgaria's abandoned children is that they are asking for money. The orphanage in Stoikite are asking for clothes and essentials.

I have read 107 pages about the orphanage in Stoikite about how happy the children were to get clothes and toothpaste and you can visit them and hand them out. Instead of just putting £10 in the bank account for the abandoned children. Atleast we know we are making a difference, many people have been there and took photos and videos that you can see on Youtube of when they visited and handed out the gifts.

Due to things like sending things over sending money might be a lot cheaper.

The only thing is you cant guaranttee that the money will be spent on the children as so far quite a few staff at the orphanage has taken money and spent it on themselves. Sad I know but because it's a poor country I guess they have no other option.

It's great that people are thinking of the children in Bulgaria. I'm afraid we ask people not to exchange personal details via this site though as we can't help if something goes wrong so I'm going to have to close the thread.
