Options
Can someone please help me with my O2 contract phones (2). I bought the phones from buy mobilephones.net. I am getting 1000 off peak minutes + 100 texts for £20/month. If these minutes and texts are utilised then its a lot and my monthly bill reaches about £30-40/month

I wouldnt even mind having my contract (started on Aug 05) cancelled if there is a solution please...it will seriously great help if someone can. thankyou lots

sounds like you have a different usage requirement to the tariff you bought. is it the minutes or the texts that you are going over on?

look at your bills, see what you are using that is costing you that much money on top of the contract amount. if it's calls then maybe look into changing tariff to something more suitable - are you making calls in peak times perhaps? if so switch to a tariff with x-net anytime minutes.

if it's texts then last time i looked you are probably better off using a PAYG sim that you can get for free and taking advantage of one of the deals on them for free texts than paying for additional text bundles as they tend to be excessively pricey in my opinion.

at the end of the day only you know how you use the phone and you will have to either adapt your usage of it (you'll have to pay off the contract if you cancel this early) or switch to a tariff that is better suited to your needs.

general moral is don't be lured by the promise of cheap swish phones on unsuitable tarrifs as invariably it could be better to pay more up front to ensure it remains affordable throughout the remainder of the contract

  • You are only allowed to cancel your contract when it expires, be that 12 or 18 months after you have started it.

My DD kept going over on her contract - but we are stuck for another 6 months.
So once she has used all her free allowance she uses her old phone with an 02 sim and pays £10 per month to 02 which gives her 300 free texts (you can also for a free 3 month period have 50 x-net minutes on this deal). The £10 can be carried over each month if you do not use it.

I know it is complicated having 2 phones in use but it might help a bit.

you could just find another contract deal like the ones at https://www.mobileshop.com for nokia 6030/3120 12 months free and use the existing phone for only off peak.

or if you got a good phone on the existing deal just sell it now and you should recoup most of what you will pay for the next 8 months

you can cancel a contract at any time, you just have to pay the charges remaining to take it to the full 12 or 18 month term. The 'cheapest' way is to wait until 6 months, then downgrade to O2 25(I think at £15) then pay of remaining 6/12 months at £15(selling off the handset to recoup the cost of that portion). Whatever you do don't cancel or say you are cancelling before the 6 months or they will try and charge you the remainder of your contract at your current tariff rate. Also give it a couple of days between dropping your tariff and cancelling, Customer Services can get a bit chewy about it all and upset as I found out.
  • i see...thks for all your suggestions..will try and work something out hopefully...
