I called BT to get a new line to my house and they said it will cost me about £130.
Is there anyway to get BT to reduce this or can I go somewhere cheaper?
Thanks.

I read something on this site about possibly getting this free or reduced if you took out a subscription with Sky - check in the 'utilities and phone' menu. Also look at the cashback sites - topcashback.co.uk, quidco.com and cashbackkings.co.uk to see if they have any offers.0

you can get a BT line For £29.99 if you agree to the terms. ( 10 calls a month with bt and 18 month contract) If you want the line connecting to go to any other service provider(talk talk/sky/tiscali stc) you cant have the offer.0

I have just made an rder for a new BT line. New BT line on an 18month contract for £29.99 installation fee.
As for the minimum 10 calls per month - I have been told by 2 different BT sales people on the phone that this rule isn't applicable. They have explicitly told me that I don't have to make any chargeable calls.0 -
They should have told you it's chargeable OR inclusive calls.I have just made an rder for a new BT line. New BT line on an 18month contract for £29.99 installation fee.

To be on the safe side, I'd make ten calls of less than an hour at the weekend to 01, 02 or 03 numbers. They'll cost nothing anyway and you'll be covered even if that advice was wrong.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

Just to let you know, I've got the connection charge reduced to £29.99 on an 18 month contract. But then the BT customer service lady told me that I would need to pay £14.95 a month line rental (£10.50 basic line rental and £4.45 for the calling package of free evening and weekend calls) if I wanted to get the diso!!!!ed line connection.
I argued against this extra £4.95 charge as I will not be using the phone much and on the BT web-site it says you can get this offer for free anyway. She kept saying she can't put 2 special offers on for me.
The BT customer service agent didn't really know much as she kept ptting me on hold and asking someone.....so after nearly 45mins on the phone her manager came and said I can have the the line charge for £29.99 on an 18 month contract and the line rental for £10.50 - which will inlcude free weekend calls. Not bad I guess. All I need now is broadband....!0 -
I've been trying since last week to try to get the £29.99 offer without much joy...in fact most of the people I've spoken to have been downright rude!
I'm completing on a brand new flat on 10th November so want to be organised and get my landline and broadband sorted for then but I keep being told that the £29.99 deal is for Virgin customers only and that I'll have to pay the £124.99 connection fee!!
I even tried mention notice 35/08 and still no joy.
Am I ringing the same number?! Any advice would be great otherwise I'm stuck...as my flat is brand new, it's in a non-cable area so no virgin even if I wanted it!:mad:0 -
Welcome to the MSE forums 80smadmusicdiva.
Unfortunately, a number of BT's ordinary sales sales staff are badly/not properly trained and keep coming out with that rubbish.
You need to get through to the COT (Customer Options Team) on 0800 800 880.
BTW, you could have said that you had Virgin cable at your last place but your new place is not in a cabled area!Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. I'll try again tomorrow to be honest I'm not holding out much hope!
I'm a first time buyer so want to save as much cash as possible, it just annoys me that they so don't give a toss. The way I see it, as a brand new customer, they should be literally licking my backside to get my business but oh no not BT!!
One gentleman tried to tell me that OpenReach was seperate from BT!! Err don't think so!!:o0 -
He told you correctly.80smadmusicdiva wrote: »One gentleman tried to tell me that OpenReach was seperate from BT!
Ofcom insisted that BT set up a completely separate* network maintenance organisation - BT Openreach - so as to ensure that engineers did not give preferential treatment to BT but treated all line providers equally. That's why you'll see posts on here such as, "Zit Telecom could get a line installed for you - but they won't pay Openreach to do so."
* I am the nation's greatest cynic so I'd just agree with you if I had any doubt that, despite it being BT Openreach and BT Retail, they are separate operations.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
