Switching to Tiscali from Virgin

Hi There,
Thinking of switching to Tiscali from Virgin. Price wise its a no brainer Tiscali offer more channels, more free calls for less than 2/3rds of what I currently pay Virgin.
Prior to Virgin I had BT so I should still have a BT line physically connected, however as I have not used it for over a year it it is not currenly shown on any database.
Tiscali advised me that I would have to wait until Virgin disconnected their services and the line has been declared dead before they can connect me. Otherwise I would incur a bill of £124 from BT for the reconnection charge.
This seems odd to me? Has anyone else switched from Virgin to BT did you have to go through the same procedure? How long did it take? What were the costs involved?
Also Tiscali has been slated on this forum for their customer service but its supposed to be improving. Can anyone share their recent experiences of moving to Tiscali especially if they moved from Virgin.

If you are getting your broadband and TV services via cable with Virgin then there is nothing to stop you getting your BT line reactivated.
But Tiscali are you sure its the best deal? Have you looked into Sky?That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I am looking at changing from Virgin as well as they seem to be getting more expensive and when I phoned yesterday to try and re-negotiate they told me I was already on the best deal they could offer me. I am currently paying £37.99 per month for size M broadband (2mgb), tv - XL, phoneline and talk unlimited 24. I did get talk unlimited 24 'free' for the last 12 months and this is now coming to an end (hence the £37.99 per month which has been £30 per month.) There was a bt line here when we moved in 7 years ago but the box is no longer in the house. Any ideas on costs etc to re-instate? Am considering going to O2 for broadband and sky etc having looked at the info on this site. Any help would be welcome!!!!!!0

Hi there,
I'm also keen to switch from Virgin (to O2 in my case), but my partner is worried about losing access to the virgin.net email address we currently use.
Does anyone know whether we will still be able to log onto this email address in the interim period once the virgin account has been closed but while we get people used to a new address? (I want to move quickly to take advantage of quidco offer).
Any enlightenment much appreciated0 -

Depends on what you are after- Tiscali where cheaper for me - sky would have wanted
TV £17 , BB £5 ( mid ) + line £10 = £32
Tiscali -
TV ( slightly less channels- but more of what I want inc recorder box on quidco deal + some VoD ) and BB & line rental = for £20 , add £6 for even more channels

of course if was happy with Sky base BB ( 2gb) and wanted certain TV channels / tel with free Eve calls , then sky might come back into playAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
About a month ago I investigated changing from Virgin to the Tiscali Talk Anytime, Broadband and Television.
They checked out my old BT line and said all was OK
I waited two weeks and was going to start when the lady said that I could only start with the phone and Broadband and would have to wait for a month before I could start with TV - This put me off. However I just got my Virgin bill and decided that I would change after all. They now keep giving me a stock answer that it is not possible to have the TV package on my line - they won't say what has changed - Just the same answer "It is not possible"
Something is wrong here where do I go to find out what?

I am sure that there are some people out there who are happy with Tiscali, and while things are going well, the package they offer is reasonable. I have seen other comments on here about extremely poor Tiscali customer services and our experience was similar.
We changed our bundle nearly twelve months ago and they have not yet billed us correctly. We have had no landline now for four weeks, and after having spent hours on the mobile to customer services (who promise to call back and don't, and then when you ring up again you have to start from the beginning), sending e-mails and letters, complaining on their website and ispreview.co.uk, we eventually had a registered delivery letter that said they had been trying to contact us ON THE NUMBER THAT WE WERE COMPLAINING ABOUT and if they didn't hear from us they would assume our complaint had been resolved. When we had finished laughing we rang them to ask for our MAC number and are moving to O2 for broadband at £7.50 monthly (I have mobile contract so get reduced rate) and back to BT for free UK and evening calls that come with £10.50 line rental plus £5 per month for 600 international minutes (daughter lives in Aussie) (and no TV package).0
