British Gas - 5 Accounts 1 Address?!?!

Account 1 - Has an outstanding balance of £331
Account 2 - I have a rebate on £57
Account 3 - Is from today closed
Account 4 - Is in someone elses name
Account 5 - Is threatening legal action as is now with a debt collector!

3 weeks ago I got a bit bored of getting all these different messages from BG, so I decided to give them a call to try and find out what was going on with my account.

I had recieved a letter stating I was in arrears with them to account 1 but got a cheque for account 2 so wondered what the hell was going on, anyway when I called them they said I had three accounts (1-3) I told the person I was speaking to at the time that without sounding harsh I refused to pay a penny until they had this sorted to which he was in agreement with me, but 'typicaly' the systems went down which prevented him from helping me further but arranged for someone to call me back as a matter of urgency (which is usually a 5 day call back) as I was being threatened with having my supply cut off. The letter gave me a 5 day notice period in which from the date of the letter only left me with 3 days so he said someone would call me within 24 hours as the day after was a Saturday so unsure if they would be available.
Anyway - no call until 4 days after! I was at work and unable to answer the call and no number left to call back but the voicemail said they would call me back again in the next hour - NOTHING!

So I never got to speak to them and gas still on!

Anyway today I called them again (to my reluctance as my last call tallied up to £13 on my mobile phone bill!)

I had recieved another bill account 4 and a letter from some debt collector account 5 for £37.

After speaking to the woman on the phone today she advised me:

Account 5 has now been forwarded to the builders (as I am the only owner of the property since it was built last year) and the bill belongs to them

Account 4 the person named on that bill has paid it but lives at another house on this street

Account 3 Was £0 balance but 3 weeks before was £49 in debt but now clear as I have made payments to the account as they called me demending a make a minimum payment of £30 to which they had about £112 from me which paid that off but leaves me £80 still wing to me and they do not know where the left over money has gone
This has apperently been passed on and they will be contacting me again soon.

Account 2 Was an account I closed and had that money back in the form of a cheque

Account 1 is in my name but my address is 'plot 16' as opposed to 'no 16' and is now outstanding an extra £200 to the amount I was give a a month ago?! How could that possibly have gone up by that much? Surley no one pays that much for gas in 4 months let alone 1 - 2 at most.

Anyway with all this going on is there anyway I can complain? Would I have any decent grounds and where would I go? AsI am not calling there call centre again to be put on hold being told they aim to answer my call with 10 minutes and actually leave me on hold for over half an hour! (Good job I am on contract!) Today was not so bad, they said 3 minutes and it was just under 10.

All help would be hugley apreciated - Sorry If I have gone on, but I just wanted to get it accross the best way I could!

Thanks in advance for your help .

  • Was the property plot 16 and then became number 16? Ploy numbers don't often follow on that way to house numbers?

No. Plot 16 is somewhere further down the street, but they address it to plot 16 as that is wht this house was at the time, and the postman just delievers it here cos it says '16' on the bill.
