Thanks Martyn.
Please clarify whether British expats , their families, UK government workers, British soldiers stationed and fighting for their country around the world, UK Embassy staff etc etc are all unwelcome on this webite and / or forum.
Oh please. He didn't say anyone was unwelcome. The post was pretty clear.0 -
Have now checked with forum staff and all Brits are welcome to post including Scottish residents.
The rule is purely informative, not exclusionary and there is no bar on any posting by a non English or Welsh resident so long as it complies with general forum rules
Rule 11.2 This site is directed to users in England and Wales only unless otherwise specified for specific items posted on this site.
The rule I am told is to ensure there are no issues which might confuse readers from England and Wales due to different rules regulations or laws etc.
So before it is too late I can inform readers that ICICI is still today currently offering 7.42% interest on a 12 month sterling deposit of over £70K and 7.37% if under £70K
The ICICI office offering this rate is their Singapore office and it is worth noting that Singapore like Ireland guarantees all savings deposits of licenced insitutions in the Republic with no maximum amount, as opposed to the UK where there is a £50K maximum . For the avoidance of doubt, yes, residents of England and Wales may open accounts at the bank subject to the usual money laundering regulations.Below is the current rate copied and pasted from their website today.

The point isn't about who is welcome - it is about who the content is for. The site is government by the laws and regulations of England and Wales, and intended to cover issues for the UK.
We are not regulated or legally covered for beyond that. Where there is a coincidence of information it is great and im happy for anyone in the world to benefit if possible.
Yet the site can't unfortunately be covered for ex-pats and hence why in teh past ex-pat boards have been requested and I have had to say no.

Great posting Martin.
All postings on this forum should be relevant to and concern residents of England & Wales. Indeed there is nothing more infuriating than after ordering goods on an international website to be informed that these goods cannot be sold to UK residents or delivered to the UK. There are myriads of sites like that, usually American, and it's great Martin does not want this to happen to his members/readers .
As a UK expat with a home in London you can be sure that everything I mention is relevant and available to Martin's desired target audience.0 -

What kind of pseudo-legal waffle is this? Not "legally covered"? Covered by what or whom? So if I run a forum based in the UK and a non-UK resident contributes some information, then my own legal liabilities are different from those associated with a resident? I think you need to talk to a solicitor who's passed Law 101.0 -

I don't know why, but I've seen enough similarly-worded websites to understand that it's either a requirement or a detriment to the site owner. You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:0 -

I'm not going to pretend I know law at all, but all the financial websites I've visited which are hosted in the UK state "this website is entended for residents of the United Kingdom; if you do not qualify, please leave now" or something similar.

I know a popular local website/forum run by a bunch of expats which has a rule stating no disagreement with, or criticism of, the Moderators is permitted.
My God do they enforce this rule ! One night at 2am I was typing a posting in a section 'for regular 5 star posters where the rules are not so strict' concerning insulting remarks by a certain Moderator. I had hardly pressed the submit button before a yellow notice came up on the screen saying I was banned for life for breach of the rules !
A timely warning for the guy who rightly or wrongly criticised Martin !0 -

I would never back censorship in any guise, but I don't see where you're coming from suggesting that the MSE site might be going down that route.
I could equally be described somewhat politely as "not suffering fools gladly" but I don't see the point in criticising someone for criticism's sake. Martin may be a journalist, but he's not really the purveyer of all evil, as some would make out. He has brought information to the masses, and for that he should be lauded, whatever his own gains might be.You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:0
