This probably isn't the right place but you all seem so clever. *creep*
Basically, why is it on some items on my receipts there are little *'s next to them?

I think - but don't quote me cause I'm probably wrong - that it's the stuff with VAT on.NST #10 Steps 7K 2/30 10K 2/12 5 a day 3/30 NSD 0/20

I think it's VAT too - I know that at my local Co-op you get a breakdown at the end of the receipt to show how many VAT-able products you've bought, and how much VAT you've paid. I think it also shows how much you've spent on zero rated products too. I *think* VAT-able items are starred on the receipt too, but I couldn't say for definite.0

Wow. I would never have thought of that!
It's only a few items though. Why don't we pay VAT on all of them? :undecided0 -
Yes, those are the products that have VAT on them - some of which don't make any sense to me, but hey...what do I know? (seem to remember that there was a fuss recently over something that M & S had been charging as VAT rated - this link explains what happened. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/money/tax/article3048622.eceObedient women are never remembered in History!

Its just snacks, soft drinks, confectionery, alcohol, etc that have VAT applied.

The idea is supposed to be that we don't pay VAT on essentials such as food but we pay VAT on luxuries such as biscuits, crisps, toilet roll!, etcNST #10 Steps 7K 2/30 10K 2/12 5 a day 3/30 NSD 0/20

So basically we shouldn't have anything on our receipts with vat if we want to be good and not eat junk then?
