Basically, why is it on some items on my receipts there are little *'s next to them?

I think it's VAT too - I know that at my local Co-op you get a breakdown at the end of the receipt to show how many VAT-able products you've bought, and how much VAT you've paid. I think it also shows how much you've spent on zero rated products too. I *think* VAT-able items are starred on the receipt too, but I couldn't say for definite.0

Yes, those are the products that have VAT on them - some of which don't make any sense to me, but hey...what do I know? (seem to remember that there was a fuss recently over something that M & S had been charging as VAT rated - this link explains what happened. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/money/tax/article3048622.eceObedient women are never remembered in History!

So basically we shouldn't have anything on our receipts with vat if we want to be good and not eat junk then?
