rechargeable battery advice

does anyone have any tips for the best rechargeable batteries?
I am using jessops and I am fed up with them not holding their charge. They also take 14 hours to charge!!!
I really would like to keep using rechargeables but am finding it not worth the effort at

The charging times probably due to your charger rather than the batteries.
I've used some Sony AA 2100mAh and had no problems at all. I'm looking for some different sizes too (and a new universal charger) so will be interested to hear other peoples opinions.

i use uniross AA 2500mAh and had no probs with uniross 1-2 hour sprint charger (for AA/AAA)
  • I have the Uniross 2700mAh AA size, which is the highest capacity currently available, they seem to hold charge well. It is worth getting the top capacity.

or can get for a good price on Amazon.

I have the uniross AA/AAA 1-2 hour charger and it is OK but fairly basic.

I also have this charger, and it is the best one I have used :

It is fast - about 2 hours and will charge up to 4 AAA,AA, C, D and up to 2 PP3 size. The charge slots are individually monitored so each battery gets the correct charge and don't have to charge in pairs. It has a fan to cool the batteries while charging. Can also discharge NiCad batteries first for best charge.
  • Thanks for those tips
I am using 2500 batteries at the moment and got about half an hour out of 2 of them in one of the kids toys:huh:

  • Personally I would recommend the Vapextech rechargeables which you can get from their website direct. Go for the 2900mAH ones. You'll also need a smart charger if you haven't got one as cheap chargers will just fry your batteries as they don't switch off when the battery is fully charged. This is usually why battery life gets worse over time.

How old are the batteries (they reduce capacity with age/use) and what type of toy are they used in? (most will be fine, but some do not cope well with the slightly lower voltage of rechargeable batteries).
  • thanks all for the help
The toys are mainly cars and things that move or make noises or do both. I hate that most toys say not to use rechargeable batteries, thats why we dont have that many
I suppose that the batteries might be a few years old but I dont charge them all that often so maybe a new charger is needed?
