NIE Power Card meter

Hi all

Im a bit of a lurker time to post I guess

I put £10 electric in on thursday there was £3 odds in it, had emerson heater on a few hours and done loads of washing, Sunday afternoon I was -£5.64 so I out another £10 in and this morning there was £1.85 in it!! emerson heater had not been on from thursday and there was only 2 loads of washing and drying done. £2.51 overnite is that not a bit much.

  • tumble dryer is very sore on electric, washing can be too if you're doing it at a high temperature. And I think the immersion is sore on it as well.

I've noticed the difference too, the price went up by 4p per kwh which is a lot!

There are a few of us on this thread trying to reduce our energy use (some a lot more successfully than me!) - come and take a look and see if you can get any tips...

  • Same story here. Only me and OH in house and we used to go through about £8 a week, now using at least £13. And that doesn't include hot water or heating as we use gas for that. Used to be able to get away with £5 a week gas, over the past year it has went up and up and now is £10 a week....For this we get one hour of heating and hot water a day...Can't afford to put it on any more than that.
    ;)I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY;)

  • Hi all:)We also have a meter (power card) and we have the gas(card meter too) My husband and son are at work so only me at home all day. We are very careful with what we use, and we got such a shock last night when I asked my husband to have a wee check at how much gas we had left. This was about 4.45pm There was 53p left in the gas . I had bought £20 gas on Sat morning as there was only about 56 p left. I also bought a fiver's worth of Electricity same time. We live in a big 4 bed house and we only heat the rooms which are in use. When I am out as well during the day I don't put it on andwhen my husband is in bed early at night for work starts early for him I would turn it off and pop a lovely fleecy blanket over my knees while knitting and I am cosy doing this. We line dry the clothes and when we need hot water we are very careful with the use. My husband went to the shop and bought another £15 worth of gas last night again, and I had bought another £5 of electricity on Wed morning. It is wild!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My electric has gone up by £4 this week ..........i know the reason why! The kids have been off school for a week and as thats where i work , so have I  .

makes me dread the two week holiday at Christmas, I can just imagine it lol.

'Mum can we turn the tree lights on now?', "No!!, you know we sit round a candle between 4 +7";)
  • I am just back from 2 weeks on holiday. On the morning we went I checked the electric meter and there was only £2.53 on it. So I topped up by £10.00.

The day before we came home my brother text (he was round checking all was ok) and said the meter was squealing.

Now how can that be? No-one was using electric for 2 weeks yet we still ran out. Obviously we had a fridge running and the fish tank but nothing else.
  • Don't forget that right now, £10 will only buy you 60 units of electric where it would have bought you 90 units a few months ago. 60 units over 15 days is only 4 units per day. When I was on hol we were using around 2.5 units a day for our fridge so I'm guessing your fish tank adds on the other 1.5.

I think it's going to take us all a while to realise quite what this price hike means!! It's still feeling pretty shocking to me as well.
