I bought a hardback copy of "The Devil in Amber" by Mark Gatiss a couple of weeks ago in mine. I was rather pleased, since it was on my reading list and I'd been planning to get it anyway. Most of the books in Poundland generally aren't to my taste, but obviously checking them regularly paid off.
On a similar note, if you have a load of obscure films you're after, sometimes Poundland have them on video/dvd. There was a particular film I'd been after for years that I'd been unable to find online at a sensible price, which turned up in one of their branches.
Also, they're the only shop I've been into (that wasn't an outright sex shop) that had Condomi brand condoms, though I haven't seen any lately. They're vegan, unlike almost all of the other brands. I don't think I'd trust products like that from a pound shop if they weren't a brand I'd heard of, though!0 -
My local poundland has a good selection of make up. Recently they have had loads of Revlon stuff and the foundation is excellent. They also have 3 pack of Maybelline nail polish.
Just had a quick search to find out more about the Revlon make up and it's from the Vital Radiance range which was discontinued a while back (it was marketed at the over 50's) I'm only 32 but that doesn't put me off because it really is the best foundation I've tried0 -
We have a pound store and a 99p store i found 5 dice & a shaker in the 99p store printed off a yahtzee score pad voila much cheaper than the £10 you would normally pay
Word of advice though check the sell by dates on the food i brought 5 ruffles bars when i got home found they were 4 months out of date!0 -
I get the padded envelopes and clear parcel tape (3 for £1) as we use loads for ebay and amazon.
I've bought the two tumble dryer balls that you get in other hardware shops for £10 - saved £9!!!
One of my best bargains was this year - we celebrated our 1st wedding anniversaryand thought it would be funny to spend £1 on a gift. I got a Monty Python book, which was obviously £1 and was also paper (traditionally 1st anniversary gift)
My advice is if you see something that's a bargain in £Land get it there and then because if you go back the next day it's normally goneMortgage: Was: £154,495 Oct 2039 Now: £82,340.34 May 2037Swagbucks ~ £155 (2024 ~ £395)Surveys ~ £148.59 (2024 ~ £280.14)Make £2025 in 2025 #5 ~ £964.62 ~ (2024 ~ £2,561.04)0 -
echo padded envelopes and gift wrapping- some of it is tat, but they have some lovely gift bags. I bought some curling ribbon and parcel bows last week, which looked v expensive
Poundland also have some ok cardmaking bits. I got some lovely chipboard embellishments to make xmas cards and some of the gift tags can be adapted to make cards. They also have cardstock stickers at the moment (cats, dogs and gardening themes) I don't trust them to be acid free, so not much good for scparbooking, but fine for everyday cards
Oh and the underground ernie trains are well worth a £. Friend's 5yo was very pleased with his
Stuff to avoid- some of the dog chews are cheaper elsewhere- the twirlers (forget brand) were cheaper in the supermarket last week and some of the cleaning products are cheaper elsewhere0 -
In Glasgow city center, there are 2 Poundlands and a good half a dozen non-branded pound shops, and while most of them sell rubbish, I do get a good few bargains. I use Poundland a lot, from everything from diluting juice and multipacks of crisps, through to brand name cleaning products, through to cardmaking stuff for birthday/christmas cards. I got my OH a USB vaccum cleaner for his keyboard last christmas, and he loved it, never told him it was only a pound, and he still thinks it cost a bit more than that! I also got those bath scrubber things (for shower gel?) to go with some christmas presents for this year, exactly the same as the ones selling for £2 in boots, but with a pumice stone, nail brush, mirror and combs included with it.
Also, their glasses are wonderful, their cutlery however fell apart after a few days. The travel adaptor I bought didn't work when I went on holiday, something probably due to the fact it converted itself from a US to an australian adaptor, so didn't work quite so well as either.
My mum is a Brownie guider, and loves the pound shops. She usually buys all sorts of stuff from there, either for christmas presents or craft bits or whatever. My mum is an even better bargain hunter than I am, quite often I'm amazed at what she'll find.0 -
A pack of two LED lights for inside a cupboard.
The light turns on when you open the door.
Complete with batteries.
Attach with peel off sticky pads
Brilliant - literally! - and only 50p each
oops!
meant to say - this was from Poundland (Exeter)
Do you stick them to the door? What is it that makes them light up? They sound great, just cant understand how they work!
thanksEllie

I have not seen them but maybe they have a sensor type thing that attaches to inside the door seal so when it opens (and releases the sensor button) the light come on . a bit like the light in the fridge! just a thought! HTH x
probably not as it sounds very technical (now that I have typed it!) for a pound!!!0
