    Hello,

I've been reading this thread for a while and initially thought I wait til the new December challenge to pop in. But I noticed another GC challange newbie (Tes) just posted for the first time too. I'm testrunning the 4k a year challenge but thought it be also a good idea to keep a closer eye on my grocery spending.
We're a household of two and a cat (whos food is included in groceries) and I try to stay under 200, this month I spend ₤156 so far but got all my work lunches for this month and most of December in the freezer plus a few batches of soup and dinner.

Welcome to the thread Tess and Thriftylass :j We are only a family of 2, but we do have two very hungry dogs and two hungry cats who seem to eat us out of house and home for some reason..lol. I've been monitoring the grocery for a couple of months, before that I had a lapse of a couple of months where I totally fell off the wagon. But at least I am beginning to keep track of what we spend finally :)

    Morning all

SPent £4.90 at MrT's yesterday but £4.50 of that was clubcard vouchers. So actually only spent 40p on 4x milk and a couple of other bits :)

Will update signature in a mo - was going to do it yesterday but had a really bad day :(

Hoping for at least 4 no spend days next week so hoping GC still comes in on target.

Welcome to all the newbiesand I hope everyone else is ok.

    T xx

Hi all, hope everyone is doing alright. I have updated signature its difficult this month 2 birthdays ds2 is 18 and dd1 is 23 four days later! Plus lots of family bits that mean meal planning is going a bit haywire, but we will try our hardest to keep in budget. On a kind of plus side got LOTS more windfall apples for free to prepare but its the prepare bit (about 6 carrier bags:eek: ) and Ive been told there are more on there way! Free food is good just not all at once:o
  • Good Morning All

Just about to update sig - been a bit lax at this.

Not doing too bad so far, got half sack of pots from farm shop yesterday for £4 and those last us ages.

Anyway want to be really good this coming week so I can get more Xmas food in.

    Welcome Tes,
We are a family of 3- 2 adults and 1 DS, so cannot really suggest figs for your family, tbh all families are different and so its hard to compare even similar sized ones. The idea is to see what you are spending (receipts) and then by using tips, ideas, recipes etc, try to reduce things gradually. The best suggestions I can give are:- make meal plans, check reduced section, go one brand down (brand to shops own, shops own to value), maybe bake cakes/biccies/bread etc when you have time (get kids involved if you want!).
Good luck and welcome on in :T.
Also meant to say yesterday, cw18- you have you do what you have to do, it must be very hard for you all just now, so I would spend your time on things other than GC. Still hoping you will pop by though as your posts are always worth reading :). MrsM I keep forgetting to say, hope all is going ok for you too, and you are feeling well :). Also good to see angelnikki posting on here again- keep well :).
Not much else to report, been a few LSD's (low spend days lol), our budget is looking healthy, need to get on and get Christmas list organised though.

Edited to say (after seeing HWGA's post a bit further down)- take care HWGA, pop in as and when you can, in the meantime all the best to you and sis.

  • Did a big shop in Mr S yesterday (got a voucher for £6 off £40 spend so couldn't resist). In the end spent £33 from GC money bringing my total for the month to £121.16 and we are pretty well stocked by now so I'm quite pleased with this, esp since I did some BOGOFS on fruit so hopefully have enough to last the best part of 2 weeks. Mr S also sent me £4 off £40 shop vouchers for every week between now and Xmas so unless MrT comes through with something astonishing this is where I'll be shopping for the forseeable.

Tonight I am going t try to make my first ever indian meal - keep your fingers crossed.

Oh and btw I don't include takeout eating or eating out in my GC money - that comes out of my treats budget!

  • Hiya guys,
Sorry mrs Mc, I'm gonna have to pull out of the GC for nov/dec, as my sister is having a bit of trouble, she's not well and has to move house, be out by the 28th so I'm going to help. it's a rush to get booked and ready by then, but she'd do it for me, not very mse but needs must eh.(I'm flying on the 19th OMG must pack, if I forget anything I'll just pinch her cloths he he)
Wont have much time over there as packing cleaning on the way out and then unpacking and cleaning going in and apparently I'm also chief cook and bottle washer, so will post from over there if that's ok, as I'm still in charge of her budget, but have no idea of costs in oz:confused: maybe I can teach her a thing or two cos she never looks at receipts and tends to do ready meals:eek:     so I will try to convert her and do some bulk cooking for the freezer ( my sister doesn't cook:eek: )and maybe do an unofficial challenge to myself:beer:

Hopefuly talk to you from oz on the 21/22 nov
