Just wondering if anyone can advise... I live in a 6 year old house & we are thinking of getting a new boiler.. a more efficient boiler.. currently have a Baxi conventional but are thinking of a valliant/worcester boiler.
Can you just swap the boiler or do we need new everything?
Any advice greatfully receive.

Why are you thinking of changing your boiler if your existing one is only 6 years old? We always tell our customers that if your boiler is still working what is the point of spending out over £1500 on a new one. The best thing to do is make sure that you have your system running at its most efficient ie trv's on radiators, timer for heating and hot water, insulation in house, thermostats, updated cylinder with jacket etc.
The quoted figures for the efficiency of new boilers are only correct when the rest of the system is energy efficient as well.
If you had a new boiler fitted the engineer would have to update the system to new regulations, so its not just a case of changing a boiler anyway.0 -
its rubbish....
at the moment it isnt working correctly (again) its constantly firing.. clicking on and off... on and off etc the circuit board was only replaced 6 months ago and its now doing the same again. Also when it fires up the smell of gas is horriffic ....Bit of a Florida Fan :j

You dont have to change everything, you can just have a new boiler. Are you thinking of changing to a combi though?0

Not sure re combi... have a tank right now and thought leaving that where it is would be the better option..

Perhaps you should get an engineer in (recommended by friends or family) first and see what he thinks.
Also, I am glad that you are thinking of not going for a combi boiler if you do decide to get a new one.
In the winter (like now ) it is not too good if your boiler breaks down and you have a combi because not only do you have no heating but no hot water too.0 -
Thanks have got a man coming this pm for his opinion...Bit of a Florida Fan :j

I am a bit confused by the above.
Our old (non-combi) boiler broke down last year so we were without hot water and heating.
Are you suggesting that a tank should have (does have?) an immersion heater as well which will at least allow you to have hot water?
We did not have any other means of heating our water other than by the boiler.
I now love my combi boiler.0 -
In our last house, there was an immersion heater. When we had gas CH put in, the tank was retained (non combi) so when the boiler packed up, we could use the more expensive immersion heater.
In our present house we have a combi. Pros are cheaper to run, more cupboard space where tank was and hot water always available. Cons are no airing cupboard and no back up if boiler stops working.0
