Right you lot I am counting on you!!!
I have decided that tomorrow is the day that I am going to....

    QUIT SMOKING!!!!!

    please keep me motivated everyone.
Any suggestions for first thing in the morning, I normally reach for a ciggie as soon as i get out of bed!

DH and I quit back in 1999 - we found that the "always have" ciggies were the ones we had to work at most. By that, I mean the ciggie you automatically have with your first tea/coffee, the one that you always light up when you have put the groceries in the car after doing the supermarket shop, the one that you always light when taking/making a phone call (obviously not at work nowadays) - you know the ones I mean.
We had to find something else to do to take our minds off those cigarettes more than any others. We tried ordinary gum (sorry, yuk - really didn't like this), extra-strong mints (not with tea or coffee of course), all sorts of "displacement" things (I had a lot of very chewed pencils LOL). If you recognise that these cigarettes are no more "special" than any others, and if you really want to stop smoking, then you will find something that will work for you. For the "first thing in the morning ones", a rigorous toothbrushing and flossing routine worked for me (nice fresh mouth...I actually didn't want to mess it up with ciggies). HTH, honey.

DH used the patches - I didn't as the day after we decided to quit, I came down with 'flu (not just a heavy cold, but the real deal and I felt horrible - furthest thing from my mind was a cigarette) so by the time I felt better, I hadn't had nicotine in my body for almost three weeks. Didn't seem much point in putting a patch on then, so I didn't bother but I'm not sure I would have succeeded if DH and I had not been doing it together.

It has made such a difference to us - we definitely don't get the coughs and colds that we used to get. We aren't any richer as a result of quitting, but we were getting through 40 a day each  and I hate to think how much that would cost now.

Wishing you all the best, SummerMoon!

any way i have also found the floor and bed in the spare room and recovered the bed trying to sort through summer clothes!!!!!!! going now haven't had any brekkie and tummy rumbling, see you all later
